R9 290X Owners Thread

I figured overclocking issues were the same for everyone? Crashes, garbled screen etc, I thought I'd be adding too much to an already long post by including what was already known.

You said something about overvolting. Nothing else, nothing about what issues you're having.

You need to be a little more specific about what you are asking.

For example it is hard to check you 3dmark11 score without you posting the link and also stating what CPU and clockspeed you were using.:)

You're too nice.

Are you just looking for an argument Ranger ? It seems to me that all you're doing is trying to stir something up ?

I came on here looking for a bit of advice and all I get from you is some kind of power struggle attitude. There's nothing like a know it all to ruin an atmosphere on a forum, It's no wonder I stay away from forums. If it bothers you that much then simply don't answer my questions.

Best place to get informations is on forums mate.

Some people forget that at one point in there life, before they were good, they were also noob.

You dont seem to understand that in order for ANYONE to help you, you need to SPECIFY what your issues are. Now stop being a baby about it seriously lol

And no, im definitely not a know it all. Might act like one once in a while, like yesterday i went full on cocky and arrogant and claimed to know something when i was completely wrong. I realized i was incorrect and apologized. (He wasnt correct either but that doesnt change anything)

Too true mate, I admit openly that I'm a noob to this stuff. I've only just got back into pc gaming so I need all the help and advice I can get.

Well I got the link to the 3D Mark 11 Extreme score here : X9414

My rig is the Infinity Tesseract, a i7 4770k OC to 4.7ghz. Using 8GB Team Vulcan 2400mhz. 1GB Samsung EVO SSD. Windows 8.1. Anything else needed guys ?

That was my best score so far and with some slight glitching I dropped the settings down for each option, GPU and Memory and I'm getting around X9200 with these settings here :

GPU Clock 1100
Memory Clock 5300
VDDC Offset 31
Power Limit 5

I played AC IV Black Flag and DTM experience for about an hour each with those settings and everything set to the best image quality. I got no 'crashing or glitching' issues with this setup and I plan to use this from now on unless you guys would advise against it ?

You STILL havent told us what happens or what the issue is when overvolting over 52mV or whatever...

When I set the VDDC higher than 150 I start to get issues but I've seen a few screenshots of the S-TRIXX where people seem to use 200 quite often.

This is what you need help with right???

so if you overvolt without overclocking you still get this issue?

No, I haven't tried that without an OC on the cards. I generally have the GPU on or around the 1100-1200 mark, the memory around 5400 but the VDDC is where I get confused. If I set this high it will start to give me those glitches, even higher than 70 when combined with the OC settings above.

The closer I keep it to around the 40 or 50 mark, the better it seems to cope. Is that an expected outcome ?

Thanks for the advice by the way. ;)

Also no im not trying to stir an arguement, sorry for having to DIG information out of you because you cant provide it.

Couldn't agree more :)

Really?

Its funny you say that because i dont see any of you helping out.

what refresh rate is your screen? If its 120hz or higher try to set it to 60hz, there's a weird issue with overvolting and screen refresh rates. Also, memory clocks are directly affected by voltage, if you lower your voltage but not the memory your memory will become unstable which will cause a crash or horizontal flickering. Higher voltage = Higher memory clocks.

Because you are the pro Ranger ! And you know you are good, but sometime, you have to leave the condescending attitude aside. :p

Papalu, what type of cooling do you have and what kind of temperatures do you get under load, you can verify those values with GPU-Z. There is a sensor tab.

Quote me on the condescending part. I was ONLY asking for specifics. Wouldnt go as far as saying im pro.

There's Digging for information with a pick and there's asking nicely, I prefer the latter as that's the way I do it. ;)

Anyway lets forget all that.

Refresh rates are 60hz so no issues there.

You said : if you lower your voltage but not the memory your memory will become unstable which will cause a crash or horizontal flickering

I did notice that if I went lower than around 10 on the VDDC that I'd get those glitches again. But going up past 70 or so would have the same effect.

BTW I've only just started with this, I've got a motherboard to overclock next :D

Even with clocks that worked previously?
