Race Driver: Grid

Im no expert at driving games by far but after earlier comments I messed about trying to set up my Controler.

I cant even get round a few bends, the car is all over the place, also looks more like its gliding over the road than driving on it.

I have unistalled this and will never play the demo or full game again.

Running smooth as butter on my 8800GT @ 1920x1200 + 4xAA :)

Not sure if i like it yet, keep spinning the damn car out (I think GTA's ruined my driving skills). Il keep playing ;)

I have had the sound completely drop out on me once so far, just to add.

I keep coming first :D

Getting sick of morons trying to ram you off when they are losing, by doing a reverse lap and trying to hit head on. Dodged a few tonight, at one point it was like i was stalked around the track like an FPS by two losers.

Makes for spectacular crashes though!

This game is FAAAAARRRR from stable. so Far ive had:

Starting with no Sound
Sound dropping out
Starting and failing to load save file
3 Random crashes, 1 to desktop in menu, one in SP, and a black screen in MP.

I had a bit of lag in one race and one crash after winning, not unimpressed at all for free demo with crack like on-line playability.

until we hear mass reports of crashes its a little early to say its unstable yeah? i've played it for a few hours heavily overclocked and had zero crashes so maybe its your pc/drivers

Well i think its time for fraps because i just cant see one 3870 giving me 1920x1440 4XAA everything high except for shadow@low V-Sync on & smooth as butter which im getting.

Gona test single/dual/Tri gfx

Edit: Yep Single card performance & still running good. lets see if Nvidia & ATI can do anything for it in the drivers.

Well I have an 8800GT, but only a 4800x2 and manage 40fps @ 1080p.

Gotta say, I really like this game. The drifting is a bit tricky, the cars seems to be a little too grippy, but I love it. And I really love how during a race anything can and does happen, especially with the AI cars.

Online play is quite good, however with all online gaming smacktards are always present. Although so far I've not seen the extreme smacktard who drive around the track the wrong way, just the 'I am going to use your car to brake, even though it won't work' type.

However I do think something needs to be done with regards to players with higher pings, there was a Australian and a couple of Koreans on the server I was on and their cars were jumping around the track a fair bit and from time to time would rubberband causing all sorts of unforeseeable crashes.

Had a couple of glitches, after a major incident on track I was left with no choice but to retire and spectate. After only a short while, the car I was watching flipped out for no reason and left me with a strange view of what I can only assume was the sand. Even after switching players I still have the same image. During all this the sound had vanished. Finally got a picture back by leaving the spectator mode, but the sound didn't return until the race was over and the score screen was loading. And finally on returning to the lobby the game got stuck on the loading screen at which point I had to terminate the process.

Overall though, I'll be purchasing this one for both the offline and online gaming! :D

Agree with you there, I do love the San Fran race the best, the speed is really good and the AI is fallible to a very realistic extent, but not overtly so as to look stupid.
The drifting is crazy tricky, I got 170,000~ on the drift race the first time, and i was very pleased with myself, then I saw the the other player get 700,000!

The races feel very dynamic and the racers all feel individual, which i really like, and i am very strongly vying to buy this.

Top job, Codies!

What's the lowest spec PC that somebody has played this on, yet with it looking and running good (i.e. Next Gen)?

For reference, my machine is pretty much bang on the quoted minimum system requirements. P4 3.0C, 1GB ram, 7600GT. At 1280x1024, no AA/AF, even with most settings off or on low/medium it runs poorly. I haven't tried fraps but I estimate 20-30fps.

Seems like the usual consolised rubbish to me. I hate all the loading screens and 'do not turn off your PC' messages - ugh.

edit - just tried fraps. The first track averages 21fps. The San Francisco track averaged 19fps. Obviously their stated system requirements are a tad optimistic. Bear in mind Toca 3 runs with all settings maxed out, also max AA/AF, at rock solid 60fps on this machine - and without the gaudy overdone 'next gen' effects which I don't like anyway.

The bloom is over the top i hope we get an option to tone it down or turn it off.
Also i hate motion blur & turned it off before even playing a race but decided to turn it on later to see what it looks like as every game does it differently & i can say its the first time that i think a game looks & feels better with it on, they did it right.

And as i said earlier the shadow setting is the major FPS killer & i run it on low.

Well I've just been playing it and all I can say is WOW. The transition from Neon engine to Ego is a good one, the game runs a lot smoother than Dirt. Got an e8400 @ 3.6ghz, 4gb ram and 3870xt running the game on the highest settings at 1280x1024 smooth as silk.

As many have said, the A.I is fun in an arcade way. They're all out to win whatever the costs, which makes for some nice crashes (especially like earlier where I somehow managed to fly through a 5 car pile up without hitting anything)

I wanted to reserve judgement after the somewhat poor console port that was DiRT. I mean it runs on the pc, but not as smooth and I was worried the Race Driver series was going to fall into the same trap. It seems not. I was looking at pre-ordering it and after the 3 races, just have :)

P.S Final8y someone did make a bloom editor for Dirt, so you could set it from 0%-100%. I have no dout an editor for Grid will be out soon after the official release...

Would that be a true hack or was it using a a non menu registry setting?

Ive been enjoying the demo, the drift races are not really my thing but its still enjoyable. I love the first race in the beemers and theres a really cool effect when you hit a gravel trap as the cars nose dives into the dirt the huge dust cloud it throws up was great at no cost to performance at all :)

TBH i havent encountered the full on crash yet aside from one i initiated myself by driving into a wall at speed just to see the replay. Havent looked at the online mode just been havin a blast playin the BMW and Mustang races.

BTW is it just me or do the san fran visuals look a bit washed out. The detail on the replays tho make it look much nicer.

Performance wise the game is running great at my screens native res (1680*1050) with all details maxed, havent noticed any slowdowns, glitches or crashes yet tho its early days.

Only prob i had was securom error (6000) which after doing a bit of searching seemed to recommend disabling AVG which worked for me but its not a method i will want to see in the full version in having to disable an AV to play the game.
