Race Driver: Grid

I only have an 8800GT and this runs better than D1RT even at max AA! I'm liking the gameplay, too.

I went in expecting a DiRT style game but on tarmac with DiRT equalling frames.

What I got was basically an exact clone of DiRT but on tarmac rather than dirt, even down to the same style loading screens and everything, but what I wasnt expecting was DiRT style looks with solif 65+ FPS... they have definately fixed something there.

I went in expecting a very arcady racer, and this is exactly what I got. So actually, I like it. Some things need to change, like moving that dialogue box in network games right out of the way (currently sits on the end of my bonnet! cant see left hand apex's).

Bottem line, very arcady, lots of fun, exactly what I expected

Have just had a quick blast on it (rig in sig) and it runs ok @ 1680x1050 with 4x FSAA (these are the default settings when i started the game).

Havent got my steering wheel hooked up yet in Vista 64bit (Logitech Pro Force Feedback GT4 version), so only using the keyboard but find it perfectly playable, though the drifting is quite tough at first so takes a bit of getting used to.

Will definitely think about getting this when it comes out.

The demo is fantastic. The game looks lush and the sound is awesome.

Loved the touring car race, and throwing the mustang around San Francisco. Drifting I sucked at with a measely 59000 score first time around.

Multiplayer was a good laugh, only played the Mustang level so far.
First race I was retired after just the 1st lap with complete steering failure, second race was much better with a win in a field of 10 which I was well pleased with. A lot depends on who your sitting beside at the start of the race. If you can avoid the inevitable carnage in the first couple of corners there is some good racing to be had.

I've had crashes to desktop in the multiplayer mode though, no error messages just dumped uncerimoniously back there.

Wow, a car just blew a tyre in front of me and flipped. Scared the bejesus outta me! Just managed to avoid it
Is this dodgy physics? Cars shouldn't really flip after blowing a tyre! Still, I'll give this a go to see what it's like.

Coming down the pipe at ~2150kB/s :)

when doing 165 mph it may well do :) just gutted my game pad pro dont work in vista, yea i no its old now but i like it .....playing with the keys justs sucks

Bah! The game won't even load for me. I'm running XP x64 and I can see the game being loaded into the memory for a couple of seconds before it stops and disappears from view in the Task Manager. Anyone else having this problem?

Hmmm, seems to be a know problem:

Most random thing ever.... If I have Steam open and run the GRID demo, I get no sound, and then if i close it, close Steam, and run, I get sound, but my Save Game has been corrupted......?

Can someone else try opening steam (just in system tray) and running GRID, see what it does?

Steam open & no problem here.

Downloaded it and been playing it for the past half' hour.

But being a hardcore racing sim lover I found this game **** :p

But this is expected for a console arcadey ported racer.

If the codies F1 game is anything like this I will be highly annoyed.

Of course it will because that's what the vast majority of the market wants, not anally accurate sims where you have to spend a week tweaking your car before going out onto the track.

This is why the original Geoff Crammond F1 games, whilst superb, are now dead. Hardly anyone wants that style of game any more.

American Sofa-Bound Simpletons outnumber English Technically Minded Engineering types, unfortunately.
