Race Driver: Grid

Well i just ordered a BFG NVIDIA GeForce 8800GT OC2
So i guess i should be experiencing this in 1080p with good 40-60 frames using my AMD 6000+ ?

Going to feel odd getting back into PC gaming

demo works fine and looks nice but I have found the handling really difficult with keyboard - what settings should I have?

It's EASY with a keyboard, just remap your keys to a=forward, z=backward, ,=left and .=right.

(The original 'Revs on the BBC' setting)

I've yet to lose a race using KB.

any1 got r440 working with it? Even my GAME pad is not recognized:(
however its pretty easy to play on keyboard, i cant win the drift but god i enjoy the drifting sooooooo much the graphics realy show the quality in drift

Drifting is great, you got all the assists off? It's even better with them off.

I do not get any pop up artifacts like others experiance and im using a x1950pro agp 512mb card with 8.3 drivers (no hotfix used).

This may be of help to those that get corruption.

x) Graphical corruption on ATI’s Radeon X1xxx cards:

You may experience graphical problems if using a Radeon X1300 through to X1950 graphics card with Catalyst 8.3/8.4 drivers. This is down to a problem with this specific version of the drivers, and can be fixed by switching to a different driver version. At the time of writing, the problem must be fixed by rolling back to an older driver version. To do this, first uninstall the Catalyst 8.3/8.4 drivers via the control panel (Add/Remove Programs in XP, or Programs and Features in Vista), then browse to the following website: ati.amd.com/drivers. Choose your operating system and graphics card from the lists, and click GO. If the subtitle of the page is “ATI Catalyst™ 8.3/8.4 Display Driver…”, scroll to the bottom of the page, and choose “Previous Drivers and Software”. Download and install the Catalyst 8.2 drivers.

Future driver versions (i.e. 8.5 and later) should be fixed so that this problem no longer occurs.

Btw i said before i use 1024x res well i use 1280 res as there was hardly a performance hit. Btw how do you get rid of shimmering is it a driver thing or a setting thing? Just that i started noticing it when snowy told me he saw some on the spoiler when i sent a pic to him.

Oh and i get a strange sound reduction when i was pretty banged up near end of the mustang ebay GP. I think this is a feature tho to simulate the driver getting pretty hurt so he and we experiance a slight deafness lol. Duno if thats really it but thats how i see it as when i started another race with car in good nick it was fine again so might just happen when ** really banged up i duno. Anyone else get this weird sound issue. And is it a feature or a bug do you think.

At least you will get a lot more use out of your g25 setup.
I will be buying grid on the pc to use my g25.
But i will also get it on the 360 because most of my friends are getting it on there.
You will find it runs fine with that card as it is an overclocked 8800gt

Well my computer runs the game fine...for about 2-3 races

I'm suffering from CTD's a lot, but they're very nice CTD's. I get no error message, no lock up, just 80mph straight to desktop.

Stupid thing is I've been played the demo for nearly an hour and a half, happy to boot the demo up once its closed on me within 10 mins :D I like it that much :) For those 5 mins its working, it is a beautiful game. Nice arcade racing. None of this racing line crap, good old wheel to wheel stuff.

This video just about sums it up for me.....

The demo works perfectly on mine (q6600, 2gig, 8800 gts). My only real moan is that the other cars seem to just drive around as if you're not there. It's always me that has to take evasive action.

Can I just point out to people who are having probs with pads, (I and someone else in the thread couldn't use a PS2 pad) that the customise controls doesn't work quite like dirt. Make sure you press whatever button it says in the bottom left to start customising. You can get into custom controls and scroll up and down, you think you would just be able to press enter and remap it but you can't change anything until you "unlock" customise. It sounds obvious, but quite a few people have missed it.

About pads, i have a thrustmaster wireless. Everytime i start race i have to reset the controls to what i want, even if it shows them as what i want they dont work when i start a race so i have to retire that race to get controls working by reapplying buttons in the controls. Highly annoying.

your kidding right ? its much more vibrant without bloom and not so consoley looking, but its what floats your boat

I used the same Edit to turn off Bloom but it turns off all the post effects so you lose Blur as well.
It does look more vibrant, but i like it better with Bloom just not as much as they have set tho.

After hearing good things about this demo i decided to give it a go.

And i get a load of graphical bugs similar to whats seen in this video, which is really disappointing. Has anyone else had these peoblems or know how to fix it?

yeah i get the same as that but worse, things actually pops up in the middle of the track aswell for me!! posted a few pages back about it but no one knows a solution or cares :p

just noticed you using a x1900pro, im using an x1950xtx. Anyone else using a x19xx series card with or without the issues shown above?

Ati are working on a fix for that range of card, from the codemasters forum.
Edit: Damn beaten to it.

It looks gorgeous with everything on max 8xMSAA and still runs 45fps on my setup. It runs tons smoother than Dirt although it looks like both have the same graphics engine.

The handling is terrible though especially the BMW and Mustang races but the drifting race is awesome, albeit very hard master.

How do you turn bloom off?
C:\Users\YourName\Documents\Codemasters\GRID Demo\hardwaresettings\hardware_settings_config.xml
Open with notepad
Find <postprocess enabled="true" blur="true"

Change to <postprocess enabled="false" blur="true"
Save

You will lose motion blur & depth of field as well tho.

I like it, its fun. I managed to inadvertantly cause a pile up in multiplayer after the start, by piling into the guy in front, he span out, knocking out most of the cars behind me.

I'm using a x1950pro with 8.1 drivers and it works fine for me.

I have an x1900 and exactly the same problem as the video. I found this on the Codemasters forums:

So for a quick fix you can go back to cat 8.2, or wait for cat 8.5 which should also have a fix.
