Race reports

I'm not gonna bother riding with Power any more, managed to smash my 10 mile PB by almost a minute to get a 22:19 on a not especially quick night. 17th out of 60+ riders, very happy. 277W average and 171BPM average, which I've not been hitting for quite a while I think due to the fact I've been trying to ride on power.

Returned to Etwall last night for SPRC's 10m TT on the A50.

Because I blew up around the 8 mile mark last time I decided to go out a bit slower. I knew my previous average speed 27.6 so spent the last few miles trying to get my average up, finally hitting 27.7.

Wish I'd gone a bit harder earlier on or round the roundabouts as there's some time to make up there.

Still 21:47 isn't to be sniffed at. 5th.

Great work there, what was the quickest time out of interest, always difficult to gauge how quick a course is, or how well you're doing relative to your competitors! Saw it was a PB for you?

Yeah PB for me but then it is only the second time I've ridden a fast course.

It's probably 90 odd seconds quicker than our club 10.

Fastest time last night was a 20:35! Slowest a 31:04.

Sounds similar to our club 10 daveski, anything sub-22 there is pretty rapid.

I'd like to have a crack at a quick 10 and 25 course, I know I'd go under the hour on a quicker 25 course but not sure on the 10. I've heard Etwall is decent, and it's a similar distance for me to the Levens course up near the Lakes. Might try and book one in before the end of the season.

Our club 10 course record is 21:49 but the fastest anyone in the club has done it is 22:28. Think my PB is around 23:30.

If you come to Etwall let me know and I'll make sure I'm there. It's a club event on Thursday nights so easier to get into than an open event, just turn up on the night.

What caught me out was they assign numbers, at all other club 10's I've done you sign on early, you start early but last night I signed on early but was 25th to start! My mate who drove us over there started 7th so had pretty much finished when I started.

Big state race today, 85km scratch. I'm in C grade. I should be one of the fastest in the grade, but we will see who put their mask on when the handicapper was looking!

Hope I don't forget anything as gotta drive there first.

Good luck Berger, be sure to earn that beer money!

5.45 start for me tomorrow for a 10 mile TT :(

Well I came away with $80.

Took the first KOM and came close on the second.

Ended up being 89km (two 40km laps with a 4.5km start finish circuit) and 900m climb with three small hills.

After 8km we got pulled over and the commissarie went mad at people for riding across the whole width of the road. I was at the front so didn't apply to me, trying to get a break going!

1km later I had a soft roll off the front to see if anyone would attack with me, I thought the KOM was only 5km up the road, nobody came with me so I kept going. Turns out the KOM was 15km up the road... I got the KOM and just kept going, checking over my shoulder occasionally. The gap would increase on the climbs and fall on the flats. I just kept pedalling a constant hard tempo even on the downhills.

After the first lap (50km) I had about a minute on the peloton where my club mates were doing a good job sitting on and making other clubs do the work. Unfortunately I turned into a monster headwind at that point and over the next 10km my lead disappeared quickly and I was caught 2km from the second KOM. From then on it was game on and the attacks and surging started.

I rolled to the back and hung on. Inside 10km to go I was on the back pedalling full gas on a descent trying to stay on and decided enough and sat up, waved the commissarie by. Rolled in 2 minutes down on the leaders, but with huge kudos for doing 50km solo off the front.

I went through three gels, one muesli bar and a bottle and a half of SIS carb drink, and spent about an hour feeling sick. Going full gas solo while trying to pump enough liquid food into you isn't a good thing!

Averaged only 36.5kmh, max speed of 65kmh. But it was hilly and windy which contributed as well as rough surface taking it out of your legs.

Bit of Deja Vu from last year, after getting a 10 mile PB on a Wednesday, I followed it up with a league event on P903, which is a horrible 10! :D

So following my huge PB on Wednesday I managed to go 12 seconds slower, on about the same amount of power. Bit disappointing. I definitely go better in the evenings, but I'm also really struggling with my sleep the last few weekends (sleep like a baby during the week) which doesn't help with an alarm 2 hours earlier than normal. Going to need to sort that out.

Good luck, I've got a 4up in 2 weeks time! Going out for our first and probably only practise tomorrow! this will be interesting :D

The key to a fast ttt is being smooth. Try to get some more practice sessions if you can. You don't need to do them at race pace and knacker yourself just work on technique.
Are you using tt bikes? It takes a bit more practice too. It's quite scary sitting on a wheel at 30mph with no brakes! It's also impossible to flick your arm when your on the aero bars so you'll need to work out another way to indicate the next person to come through (we go with a head flick).

I've done a 2up before and it went just fine and ridden with the guys loads so sure we'll be fine. All on tt bikes, we were trying to figure out if it will be better to roll to the left or right, thinking left to keep the team out the gutter and on the smoothest bit if tarmac.
