Racism in Ukraine this summer

It sounds to me like a convenient excuse to not attend and the media jumping on it to drum up racial tensions as they often do.

I sympathise with them for having to 'occasionally' put up with it but a bit of namecalling and monkey noises wouldn't stop me supporting family.

We conceded it was a good move, especially for the 12-15m the transfer was worth, but his dad's attitude was to pretty much engineer the move through the media, repeatedly bad mouthing the club to try and get his son moved with zero appreciation for the clubs development of his son (in his eyes he was a ready made prem footballer at 15).

Just a very poor show from someones father to have two eyes on the money and little else in mind.

I couldn't believe this article this morning. I have to agree with the argument as to why these countries were allowed to host if there was any such risk. Particularly since racism is rather a hot potato.

However, it's up to those to stand up to the bullys. If they stay away, then the racists have won.

The good old Fifa zero tolerance on racism yet give the Euro tournament and World Cup to places that are a hot bed of racism.

You can pretty much gurantee if the whole Suarez/Terry thing had happened and we had have been awarded the World Cup Blatter would have stripped us of it.
 
If improvements are made in both hosts as a result of the Euro's then surely that is a good thing.

It's a minority and it is often the minority that shout the loudest without thought.

Dude, this isn't the playground. These are grown men who are capable of horrendous violence towards people of different colours and ethnicity.

They attacked their own supporters for christs sake. There are plenty of football hooligans the world over but most of them make a distinction between those that are there for a bit of trouble and those that just want to watch the game in peace.

Racism on its own is not the problem, yes the victims may feel offended at the time but they'll be fine in the long run. The problem is when this racism is combined with the aggressive culture in football in much of Eastern Europe.

The Spanish fans may make monkey chants and throw bananas, but they're not going to try and assault people of different ethnicity and there is police there encase anything does flare up. Not only are there huge amounts of racist hooligans in Poland & Ukraine looking for a fight with foreigners but I also wouldn't trust the police forces there to step in and protect foreigners.

Sepp Blatter is spending his time trying to work out a new way to screw over the English now we have mastered penalties, whereas he should be using this time to use his power to convince UEFA to find a different host. For once I pray our right wing groups such as the BNP go to atleast even up the numbers abit, because if a small amount of English fans go there with a much larger home group of hooligans then I fear some English fans won't come back alive..
 
Didn't anyone watch the Ross Kemp on Gangs episode a couple of years ago when he went to Poland and met some of the 'Ultras'?

Jesus christ if it's anywhere near that then god help the genuine fans because they really have no regard for their own or other peoples lives.
 
Media go into hype overdrive for the world cup and Euros. Germany 2006, all the eastern europeans were going over to have it with the English, Germany and Holland fans would be going berserk, the Polish fans would be out for German blood blah blah nothing happened.

Same with south Africa anyone who went was going to be mugged at gunpoint have there throat slit or some back with AIDS at the very least. Nothing happened again.

Rinse repeat for every tournament in the last 20 years.

Next Sky will have Danny Dyer reporting, telling Kay Burley that its getting 'pwoper nawty' in Kiev at the moment.

I did, and it was pretty bad, which is why I don't buy all this "it's made up nonsense by the press", no it really isn't , it is as bad as they are saying.

The thing is though Poland & Ukraine have proper hooligan groups who go out there way to find/make violence. With the other tournaments they were hyping it up a bit, but now everyone is thinking of it like the boy who cried wolf.

Lets see if you hold the same opinion after watching the program on BBC tonight.

That's absolutely sickening. How Poland and the Ukraine got awarded the Euros I'll never know. There's a lot of worry about how useless the police are as well; it actually hints at it in that video. Unless they fly in foreign soldiers to police these things I can see there being a lot of trouble.

Shocking at what was shown !

They should be stripped of the tournament !

absolute disgrace, I was really shocked at those Indian supporters being attacked.

There will be people killed at the euros, who saw those supporters training ?

Just watched the BBC documentary on this, absolutely disgusting.

How in gods name are they allowed to host a tournament where people of a certain race have to fear for their safety, it's a joke.

What chance has anyone got of doing something about it when the head of police claims the nazi salutes are the fans "pointing" ....

Also, they have no segregation at games? Asking for trouble much?
