Racism in Ukraine this summer

I'd imagine the policing in general will be higher come the main tournament but I'd be worried the Polish/Ukrainian police forces idea of crowd control is going to be give everyone in vacinity of the fights a bloody good hiding!

These nutty ultra fans will fancy a pop at English fans as well due to our fighting reputation earned by 'fans' who will be nowhere near the tournament!

Certainly wouldn't fancy going to this tournament, between the gangs of nutters and heavy handed coppers you've got a fair chance of getting a kicking or worse one way or another!

so racism isn't prevalent in the USA? Mexico? south Africa? Spain, Italy, Portugal too?

There may be racism in those nations (to varying degrees) but from what I understand it isn't as ingrained into football culture and violence compared to Ukraine & Poland. This isn't about monkey chants and abuse of black players, or even about racist attitudes in general society, it is about fans getting stoved in.

I reckon there will be stuff going down out there, maybe not in the stadia as the police will likely be out in force but around the towns you know groups of scarfers ****ed on voddy are going to wander into the wrong area and get jumped.

Didn't anyone watch the Ross Kemp on Gangs episode a couple of years ago when he went to Poland and met some of the 'Ultras'?

Jesus christ if it's anywhere near that then god help the genuine fans because they really have no regard for their own or other peoples lives.

they were Wisla Krakow fans... where the England team camp is based

The thing is it was our fans who brought all this on in the 80's. Without our period of hooliganism, I doubt it would be a big thing now in eastern Europe.

White British travelling over there will be fine as long as they don't go looking for it by draping flags over monuments and shouting chants in towns, but if your asian or black I'd stay well away for sure.

There was something on Sky Sports News a few weeks back about this too where they went to watch organised fights between Ukranian fans who were extremely excited about the English coming over so they can have a fight with them. English hooligans are seen as the ones to look up to over there.

Appalling really. I was particularly appalled by the head of police interviewed for last night's programme who claimed that the fans were pointing rather than saluting. To blatantly lie like that is unforgivable, particularly from someone who will be charged with dealing with such incidents.

There isn't a chance in the world I would ever have considered going to this tournament even before these two programmes showed the actual extent of the problem. I expected there to be trouble anyway, but having seen what could be brewing I have a bad feeling about the whole thing.

I remember the disgraceful media saying we'd all die and get raped if we went to SA2010. They're pathetic

If we held the Euros anybody could do a 'special report' and interview the EDL/BNP/random football morons and we'd look racist and like a dangerous place to visit

Erm, slight exaggeration there. Look at the amount of organised violence at football matches in England. Then look at the same thing in the Ukraine.

We don't have accurate figures for either. Football violence is still around in England in quite a big way.

Do you not think that our police force attempt to deal with racism and fighting within football in a more appropriate way compared to Ukraine/Poland?

Their police chief blatantly telling a lie over the salutes and their beat the snot out of everyone and ask questions later approach is a bit daft.

Watched the report, still think its media hype nothing in it changed my mind. Funny how he went to all the massive derby games wasn't it. When Stoke went Kiev we had no problem with the fans, nor was there any nazi saluting.

Shaktar, Kiev, Poznan and other teams in Europe where was all this massive violence and fascism then ???

I suggest the journalist and BBC attend a Feyernoord game maybe the big one against Ajax. He could even go take in a Rome derby because Lazio do not have fascist ultras do they. ;)

Yeah, or he could just stay closer to home and film here, that lad at Anfield for imitating a monkey, then all the Liverpool supporters chanting the Luis Suarez song at that lad earlier in the season and making him leave the field in tears.

I get the impression a lot of them don't like Jewish people... Opening ceremony to be like running of the Jew from Borat?

Balotelli might be interesting this tournament (he's Italy's number 9 by the way!):

Mario Balotelli intends to walk off the pitch if he is racially abused at Euro 2012 - and says he would kill anyone who threw a banana at him in the street.

The Manchester City and Italy striker was speaking amid fears of potential racism at the tournament in Ukraine and Poland.

In an interview with France Football, Balotelli said: "If someone throws a banana at me in the street, I will go to prison because I will kill him. Racism is unacceptable to me, I cannot bear it.

"I hope there will not be a problem at the Euros because if it does happen I would straight away leave the pitch and go home. We are in 2012, it can't happen."

The 21-year-old was regularly a target of racist abuse while playing in Italy.

Balotelli also said he believes he is a genius and smarter than most people.

"I think I am a genius, but not a rebel," he said. "I have my life, my world, I do what I want, without annoying anyone.

"I believe I am more intelligent than the average person.

"The talent God gave me is beautiful and wonderful, but it is difficult because you are always facing other people keen to judge you.

"There are few people with such talent, so there are few able to judge what I am doing."

If we get Italy in the Final we all know what to do don't we. :D

Also I watched that documentary & it was like being back in the 70's, I can't form an opinion based on a TV show though.

Football violence is still very much around in England. Just because it is a lot more organised and usually takes place out of the public view doesn't mean it doesn't still happen, it's just the media aren't as quick to point it out unless they think their falsified rhetoric will sell papers

After reading comments on YouTube and different forums Humanity really disappoints me. How funny is it when we are being show a video from the worst side possible we are instantly starting to hate the country and its people.
How stupid is it to say that Polish are Nazis when once they have been attacked by them. Nazis have killed millions of Polish families, and if there are any Polish nazis then they are not human. I know many Polish who were into things like fights on stadiums, been to different fight clubs etc. and all of them hated Nazis.

Does it really mean that if there is a racist group in a country, every single person / family support them? My Polish family says people like that, who fight on stadiums are sick and should be prisoned, but it still means they are scum? I live in UK for 5 years and I have been called names few times, been told to go back to my country, why am I here, but I still have British friends. I have Indian, Japanese, Chinese, German, French, Nigerian friends, good friends from around the whole world. Just because someone calls me an idiot and stupid foreign doesn't mean I will hate everyone else.

Things shown in that "documentary" are one time events which happen all the time, all around the world. But yeah, Euro is coming, everyone wants to hear worst things because that is what makes all the money. I don't see why I am even trying to defend my nation and the Ukraine, when stupid will laugh anyway, and the ones who understand don't have to be explained.

I do too think that Ultras, Hooligans are idiots who should be totally eliminated.
I just hope that Poland and Ukraine will prove opposite and take care of people like show on video.

well said, I am sure the majority of Poles and Ukranians are decent folks, the UK media will always focus on the bad side, which obviously exists, lets hope the decent folks of both countries offer better memories than the idiots

the lowest intelligence hooligans attach themselves to the right wing everywhere but over here they have been driven out by high prices

Been to Poland around 15 times in my life (mum's Polish) and our family is from that area, which is quite a well known tough working class place. All i can say is this is being blown out of all proportion sure they were quite bad some years ago (as were the English too let's not forget), but things are much more stable/safer now. Most Polish people are quite tolerant of different nationalities. i dont believe that much trouble will happen over there to be honest. Most of these claims are a load of Guvno.
