Racism in Ukraine this summer

This is already ridiculous. We haven't even had one game yet and there's already been trouble. Makes UEFA look bloody stupid for trying to play down the problem. Surely they have to hold their hands up and admit they were wrong?

Uefa said an incident had occurred but it was a protest about the city not being given any Euro 2012 matches, The Times reported.

When we didn't get the WC I often went round training pitches making monkey chants to black players

It sounds to me like a convenient excuse to not attend and the media jumping on it to drum up racial tensions as they often do.

I sympathise with them for having to 'occasionally' put up with it but a bit of namecalling and monkey noises wouldn't stop me supporting family.

I agree, media blowing it out of all proportion as usual

Well this has started off well... At a training session as well...

Totally the media blowing it all up out of proportion. Christ the tournament hasn't even began yet and the thinly veiled attempts of UEFA to pass it off as they are unhappy they weren't given any 2012 matches is just laughable.

there are infact few European countries which are not racist that could hold a European games.

Spain gives you monkey chanting against black players. same in Italy. France is in the middle of racial conflict having banned the headscarfs in public etc. Germany is trying to get rid of as many Turks as possible. Portugal has a racial divide you know im running out of footballing infact any countries that don't have overt racial tendencies and turmoil.

so where would you host the games?

there is a difference between making monkey noises and making monkey noises while burying a knife into someone. The difference between western EU football racism and Eastern is that in Eastern Europe its more often enforced with serious acts of wanton thuggery, violence and hospitalisations on a regular basis.

I think the reason the 'racism' card is being highlighted more in this tourney due to the unprecedented levels of violence that are frequently witnessed in and around the grounds of the league teams in Poland and Ukraine.

After watching the paramora program on the troubles of Ukraine. I expect a lot of problems this summers. I think the captain of Netherlands, Bommel has already complained about the chants during a training session. I expect more similar headlines...

There was someone on TalkSport this morning, not sure exactly what role she had but she was talking about the racism issues being confined to local teams playing each other.

So why then, are the Dutch team getting monkey chants thrown at them during a training session?

The authorities are simply burying their heads in the sands. Good luck to anyone out there, players and fans alike because i'm confident the stewards in the stadiums will be doing sod all to stop it.

well said, I am sure the majority of Poles and Ukranians are decent folks, the UK media will always focus on the bad side, which obviously exists, lets hope the decent folks of both countries offer better memories than the idiots

the lowest intelligence hooligans attach themselves to the right wing everywhere but over here they have been driven out by high prices

I agree, but unfortunately, its always the bad things that tip the balance and get discussed. These are the types of things that cause misery for people so get highlighted.

There is no story in good stuff. If we had a Euro cup with no racism, no one would hear about it because it did not affect anyones livelihood.

It always goes against the diversity rules to stereotype but sometimes it just cant be helped.

Lets hope for a great Euro's and for no more media rants.

As long as they have a platform and a famous name then the message will (and if correct, should) be heard. It dont matter whether its Jack Duckworth or Brad Pitt.

Apparently the 2026 World Cup will be hosted in Bahrain, any players walking off the field when government forces start shooting fans will be booked. :p

On a serious note I wouldn't be surprised if the tournament is relatively racism free bar the minor instances that the media go out of their way to dig up and blow all out of proportion.
