Racism

Why do some black people only get offended by white people using racist terms, yet between themselves it is acceptable.
No they get offended when Asian people use them as well, or chinese for that matter, what makes you believe that is acceptable by all black people?
There is racism in every community and prejudice against their own race as well. When i am chatting with my mates i call them Gayboy if there was a homosexual amongst us would i use it, i doubt so.

Again, I never said all black people.

How about you give the job to the best person. If you ain't good enough it's not because you are black, lesbian, or whatever. It because you aren't up to scratch. Get over it and get better.
Amen. This is a big problem I have with the Labour party's new shadow cabinet policy that a certain number of the posts have to be women. What if the women voted in are utterly useless but get a shadow cabinet job because they're female?

Sick of these white politically correct warriors who think they're doing the ethnic minority a favour. The ethnic minority KNOW they are different, they DO NOT care, they HAVE dealt with it, why can't you?

/Rant

Excuse me are you saying that only white people are politically correct, because trust me i know politically correct people of all races.
Also i didn't realise that you were a spokesman for all the ethnic minorities, are you including Caucasian ethnic minorities in that as well?

Exactly.

Positive discrimination meant that any underlying issues such as racism or homophobia were never dealt with.

I'm not sure that those who say "we're all the same" literally mean that we are all the same. I think it's a statement that could be rephrased as "we are all equal, and discrimination should not exist". If anybody says "we are all the same" and means it literally, they're idiots, whether they're talking about races or just two different people of the same race.

i dont know if this counts.
i have a very good mate who is black, once i called him coloured.
he just looked at me and said, am i orange?, of course i said no, then he said what colour am i? i said black, then he said if i am black, i am not coloured.
he doesn't like that expression.

also being irish, i get all the paddy jokes.
these don't bother me, unless the context is wrong,
but if someone was to call me a 'mick' now that i class as inflammatory and i will not be happy

the op has a point, these days the pc brigade are going too far.
we are all different, and to be honest, this is good.
i love going to asian shops to buy types of their food, which is nearly impossible to get elsewhere.
or going to a west indian restaurant and getting some curried goat and rice and peas :)
what's a mick?

I'm not surprised, if I was black I'd be paranoid around racist people as well.

You are accusing me of being racist? Wow.

Removed. Uncalled for personal attack and 7 days to cool off. Emotive subjects can always be debated firmly and even heatedly sometimes but personal attacks won't be tolerated. VS.

The thing is the majority of people get the meaning of Equality & Diversity completely wrong.
At all classes my first question would be "What does E&D mean to you?" and the answers would be all over the place.
The best one was from a black staff member who said "It's all about blacks in it".
After the 3 hour lesson people would still get it massively wrong:
"So what have you learnt?"
"We're all the same"
No.

Diversity is accepting that we are all different with our own skills and life experiences.
Equality is not treating everybody equally (which is impossible) but instead trying to give everybody the same opportunities.

we are all racist but some choose to hide it, this thread is proof.

The fact people need to talk about it or even define each 'race' is proof.

people are racist

GET OVER IT.

A lot of the time it's the white people getting offended on behalf of the black people when the black people couldn't give a stuff.

Very true.

I black friend of mine told me an amusing story about 15 years ago. His teacher told their class in Lewisham (mostly black class) that they were not to use the term 'black eye' anymore as it was now deemed racist. He was laughing hysterically about ths when he told me, because he, and all his black friends, use the term 'black eye' and have been all their lives without any thought or feeling that it was derogatory.
