Racist! Really?

This is GD nowadays.... it's literally nothing other than political correctness and free speech threads, that said - it is a huge thing in the world right now.

It's become such a huge thing that humans are going through, I try to switch off and get back to work - then I realise my own workplace is caught up in an online storm over sexism, racism, and the whole company is having a massive allergic reaction, and it's dominating every conversation I have #noescape

Well look at my thread on the BBC rebranding a 2016 American school documentary to be all about racial segregation in the title when really it's just a documentary following students at a majority black school in a majority black area, the corporate media seem to be going overboard trying to push sexism, racism and Nazism where it doesn't exist with every story.

Its nothing like using rhyming slang for actual racial slurs. The equivalent here would have been something like giving Serena a handkerchief in her hair, in the mammy style, but changing the colour to blue rather then the stereotypical red as depicted in actual racist caricatures.

I'm not even talking the cartoon here. I'm talking about people asking for direction. If you think the cartoon isn't racist, then fine, carry on. tbh I couldn't care less. I think you're wrong and I've explained why I think that's wrong. That doesn't put me under any duress to explain alternatives. It's up to people themselves (if they want) to work out how to conduct themselves in a manner that doesn't have other people call them out.

Or perhaps it's your understanding of what is racist that's wrong?

Yeah, perhaps it is. Though there's plenty that agree with me.

Perhaps it's just easier to say I'm wrong and carry on oblivious.

More people in this thread seem to think you're wrong than agree. Whole news corporations are saying you're wrong.

This thread is full of crap. And like most threads that descend in this way, most people can't bothered with it. "whole news corporations"? do you mean News Corp and their outlets? The ones that published it?

Wanna catch your toys? Or that dummy you spat out?

We get it, you think it's racist, I don't and many others here don't

You could have stopped quite a few pages back, what do you hope to accomplish by replying to everyone that disagrees with you ?

Are you that weak minded that you succumb to letting news coporations dictate how you think?

The news corps are so utterly obsessed by identity politics, as it's a great way of dividing people and getting them to vote in one particular direction

Jumped the gun, should have read the other pages my bad. My point still stands though

Look at it this way - Inogen has tried to argue that their opinion is correct because other people share that opinion. I've countered that other people completely disagree with their opinion ergo from Inogen's own logic Inogen's own opinion is incorrect as the opposing view is also true. This is particularly supported - at least in this thread - by the fact that more people believe the drawing was not racist and so must be (for want of a better term) more true.

Ergo - Inogen may be wrong in their opinion but certainly is in their logic. If Inogen can't formulate a logical progression then how can one trust any opinion they have?

It reminds me of the South Park episode when the kids drew a pic of the guy being hanged.

The kids never had any racism in mind when drawing the picture. Completely innocent.

But you will never stop the progressives, lefties and minorities seeing things that are just not there.

No one is disputing the shading used. Yes she is given a darker skin colour than the umpire, but that is irrelevant.

It is relevant, because the umpire is shown as caucasian whereas she is not.

Can you seriously, with a straight face tell me that if someone showed you this:

woman.jpg

..that you would think that was anything other than a caucasian woman with long blonde straight hair?

Yes. My first thought when I saw the picture was 'Well, he's got her skin colour right, but he's given her full blonde hair, which is inaccurate.' The difference in skin colour between her and the umpire was strikingly obvious.

i find it odd how so many in this thread are refusing to see why the picture has been interpreted in the way that it has by some people

I see why it has been interpreted in the way that it has by some people. I just don't think they're correct.
