Radeon 6900 XT

If you read back through the thread this comment was specifically aimed at the new Powercolor Red Devil which lists a minimum system power requirement as 900W whereas the 3090 lists a minimum as 750W. A lot of people will not have a 1000W power supply so would have to invest in that as well.

However the general consensus was that the 6900XT Red Devil will probably run fine on a good quality 750W PSU and almost certainly fine on an 850W so no need to upgrade unless your current PSU is struggling.

Yea but as stated AMD recommend way more than needed. For instance the 6800xt Red Devil recommends a 850w power supply yet uses around 56w less than a 3080 and 82w less than a 3090 under gaming load. The 6900xt Red Devil will most likely use less than a 3080 or around the same.

Both have power spikes that are causing issues with the 'recommended' PSU's output. Regardless of what is 'recommended' the 3090 draws more power than the 6900 XT. In short, your assumption that you will 'need' to buy a higher level PSU than the 3090, is actually unfounded based on real world testing, by reviewers and consumers.

Not sure why people are worried about power draw of the 6900xt. The highest I had seen playing CP2077 was 305w and out the box is actually set to 250w. Was running of a 700w PSU just fine with no spikes or anything tbh. Was only a few hours gaming but there was no odd behaviour.

part of the problem is that OCUK forum members don’t have many 6900XTs and are just believing what they read.

I will be very impressed if the Red Devil 6900XT gets to pull 450watts.

Aye although even in review it seems two have suggested an issue out of any whom haven't mentioned anything. Now if that is because they didn't check or because they on like 1200w PSU anyways but yeah just on my own actual gaming etc I am not seeing anything. I have only played with it as stock and hitting the auto overclock which pretty much just moves the power target from what I can tell and gives a new boost target. It made zero difference on what the maximum power draw is I have seen. Problem is I can't do any more testing or anything till it under water now just to show anything specific for people asking.

got a 6900XT on the way (should be here in a couple of days), will be doing boost comparisons between it and my XFX 6800 XT :)

Well bought a 3090 last Thursday and on Friday bottled it and cancelled the order. Well got a nice unexpected Xmas bonus and went back to same site and bought it again. Cost me £30 more not bothered. I just had to internally justify the cost which I did, now can't wait. First non AMD card for 10 years or more so hoping it plays nice with my Acer XF270HU in freesync at 144hz. I won't justify the price because it's crazy but after Fury/Vega/Navi I really wanted an enthusiast card and I think this will last me 4+ years at least. We'll see.

we have so little forum data about the 6900XT it’s a joke. I hope you all can take one for the team and contribute to the bench threads Kaapstaad is running. Even if the card is initially slower than expected we need some baselines to track what AMD do on the software.
