Radeon RX 480 "Polaris" Launched at $199

The pic is from the video posted in the thread that is linked So 1080 Clock.Man some people going to have a field day with this.RX480 4GB

Firestrike ultra pic

So what's the fire strike pic of, as the model number would suggest the 480 8GB. Is it clocked at only 1080?

That ultra score puts it between the 980 and Fury. If that's the 4GB version, that's unreal.

That 3194 graphics score puts it between the 980 and fury nano. That is pretty much where people saying that it would end up based on the other 3dmark scores. But i wonder if it was running at 1080 when it did this, since that would show a very nice IPC improvement with GCN4.

But those temps are nice and chill, i reckon it can be brought above the fury with some clocking up with ease.

some others as reference

Reading that thread translated;

The Firestrike ultra score he shows of 3268 is it running at 1080Mhz - which is why it ran so cool, with it running around 70 when clocked at the "public" clock of 1266Mhz.

If that truly is the 4GB card and it did score 3268 @ 1080Mhz, AMD truly have a great card on their hands.

I do think it's a bit dubious though - but these leaks do lend some evidence to support the fact that we may get reviews after/during E3.

Yes, there is clearly no way that screenshot could have been faked in any way :D ;)

of course they can, but they are still very close to previous leaks. And considering that some stores are already getting stocks of RX480 cards, there can be every possibility that someone has gotten hold of one who is not under NDA and has decided to do this.

Also the 290x Lightening which is the only AMD lightening branded card has twin 8 pin connectors while the one in their pic has 8+6.
The 980Ti lightening has 6+8+8 connections. Even the 980Ti lightening LE has 6+8+8 connections.

some translated snippets

Official drivers successfully installed as the legitimate driver signature

Radeon RAGE 67DF: C7
4GB GDDR5 memory
@ 1080MHz core clock
This card is the test sample card 8 + 6pin

Temperatures are expected public version of 1266MHz point of view of 70 degrees is a cool card in between 40 to 50 degrees

And so there is a new BIOS update will run sub

1080MHz people how to live

so taking from that the card is still on an immature bios and is expected to run up to 70c at 1266mhz

nobody is worried that the clocks are this low for 14nm finfet ?

Well it's irrelevant if the IPC is good.

But also since it's a card targeted for extreme power efficiency (by AMD's standards anyway) it could have a ton of headroom in it, in exchange for lowering the performance per watt.

There are plenty of rumours stating 480 will be around R9 390 performance. Here is one stating R9 390 performance but with 40% lower price.

http://wccftech.com/radeon-rx-480-3d-mark-benchmarks/

Here an alleged link to a AoTS RX 480 benchmark.

It actually scores lower than some overclocked R9 390s.

I provided a link showing R9 390 8GB has been on average £240 (or lower) for the past year.
http://pricespy.co.uk/product.php?pu=3196888

Later we had leaks from competitors to OCUK showing RX 480 8GB priced at £230 - £240 which if we put these rumours together means R9 390 performance, same VRAM, same price. Do a google search for this Sapphire GPU part number. 21260-00-20G

So I agree, it doesn't make any sense. This is why I have been saying if these performance and pricing rumours are true then RX 480 would be a failure.

wwccf can't add up, we all know that.

The score they quoted there was 18060 Graphics score.

These are the two fastest 290X's from Kaaps 3DMark11 thread

GPU 290X @1270/1500, GFX Score 18923,
GPU 290X @1250/1625, GFX Score 18119

Now clearly if a Hawaii XT needs 1250Mhz to match that RX 480 score then the cut down Hawaii has no chance at all let alone at stock.

I also scored 18000 at stock.
