Radeon RX 480 "Polaris" Launched at $199

I would like to see some 980Ti/980/970/Nano/Fury X/Fury/390 etc scores to see how the 480 fairs. It wasn't about comparing monetary value and about comparing how it performs.

Here you go... All stock clocked versions. All based on TweakTown review benchmarks.

Obviously the 480 figure is purely speculative on the leaked benchmark.

As for Price / Performance.. Based on the speculated price of £220 after it appeared on euro stocks.

For every £ spent, equates to the following 3D Mark points;

AMD 480: 15.58
Nvidia 1070: 10.09
Nvidia 1080: 7.96

Hopefully the 490 will end up somewhere between the 980Ti and 1070. Everyone should want that to happen, as it'll force Nvidia to be more competitive on pricing and keep AMD in the game.

Jesus guys just ignore DP and his cohorts you guys know he will come here just to shoot everything down and bury it under his nonsense and Nvidia PR.

If the benchmarks ring true and if we get a 490 type card then all I can say is AMD have pulled a masterstroke, I can see so many people buying their cards, and if the performance is close to Nvidia 1070,a card in a totally different bracket, then I can even see people returning 1070 cards for the Polaris cards

But what's even more exciting is there are AMDs cards aimed at the lower tiers, imagine what the top end Vega stuff is going to be like

Nicely done. :)

With this hypothetical graph if the RX 480 is 100% then the 980TI/Fury-X is 115% and the 1070 FE is 127%.

Very interesting way to look at it. For the guys in the market for that price point that's phenomenal. its been a long time on 28nm!

The forum becomes a far more enjoyable place to be if you use the ignore feature of the forum so that you no longer see posts from those you don't want to.

I've recently done this for one or two posters, both affiliated with or have stocks and shares with NVIDIA and AMD, and just wish I had done this sooner.

Main thing for all of us to remember is how Nvidia tend to respond.

Nvidia always drop prices in response to AMD, even if it's only a short time after launch.

If AMD have release a 490 which hits the 4000-4200 mark on graphics for £270/£280 then Nvidia will be forced to lower their 1070 from £400 to around £300/£320. When they released the 780 it was equally over-priced, 3-4 months after launch they dropped it in price by £100-£130 in response to AMD.

Further, that would create a £300 gap between their 1070 and 1080, which i can't see them maintaining. So would likely result in a 1080 price drop aswell.

They have a very good chance to undercut the 1070 and change the market if its performance speculation is true. I know I'm considering cancelling my 1070 if it saves me £100.

Only problem is how long is it gonna take for them to get the 490 out?

Which is very unlikley as even a well overclocked 290 on water would be supprising getting that score. Never mind air. Anyways carry on.

Fair enough, I though a 290x would do better.
From the graph above the a 390x with a 15% overclock would be close, but if they dint clock that high then it wouldn't be possible.

Yeah completely agree, it's going to be an interesting few weeks.

It will also be interesting to see whether AMD still have the advantage over Nvidia on DX12 titles, because even if the 490 performs slightly under the 1070 in DX11 - If DX12 performance is on par or above then it's a better buy even if Nvidia price match the 1070 against the 490.

I just think all this stuff is great for the consumer personally, when there isn't competition then it lets Nvidia do what they've done (Charge a rather ridiculous amount for their 1070 / 1080 cards). We need AMD to restore balance.
