Radeon RX 480 "Polaris" Launched at $199

Jesus guys just ignore DP and his cohorts you guys know he will come here just to shoot everything down and bury it under his nonsense and Nvidia PR.

If the benchmarks ring true and if we get a 490 type card then all I can say is AMD have pulled a masterstroke, I can see so many people buying their cards, and if the performance is close to Nvidia 1070,a card in a totally different bracket, then I can even see people returning 1070 cards for the Polaris cards

But what's even more exciting is there are AMDs cards aimed at the lower tiers, imagine what the top end Vega stuff is going to be like

Where am I shooting anything down. Can you not ask a genuine question. Do we have to believe a rumour that replacing a cooler bypasses an NDA?

The result could well be a 480, just impossible to tell at this stage and the story stinks

They have a very good chance to undercut the 1070 and change the market if its performance speculation is true. I know I'm considering cancelling my 1070 if it saves me £100.

Only problem is how long is it gonna take for them to get the 490 out?

Indeed. I'm well up for a 490, if it exists, is under £300 and is snapping on the heels of a 1070.

If there isnt a 490, the 480 doesn't look like it will give that much more performance than my 980 so will sit tight until the 1070 stock increases and prices settle to sensible levels.

I just want a new toy to be honest :p, but nvidias prices are silly at the moment so i'm going to have to wait, out of sheer principle :(

Fair enough, I though a 290x would do better.
From the graph above the a 390x with a 15% overclock would be close, but if they dint clock that high then it wouldn't be possible.

True!

If the 480 does come in and beat the 390x and is just below nano performance then I think its a great feat! Tbh im trying to hold my judgement. I think the 480 will match 390x performance with it being slightly faster but I do hope its around nano area tbh.

Will wait and see. Video looks promising but no one knows if Its 100%.. just looks convincing though.

There is also the fact that this card has 8 + 6 pin power connectors when no other card on the market for this performance does. And the RX480 has been shown to have a 6 pin connector at the least.

Nvidia cards are 6 + 6 or 6 + 8. for AMD the Hawaii/grenada cards are all 8 + 8 at the least.

If it has a 6+ 8pin then the power figures seems odd, maybe this is the 490?

There's still quite a lot of bickering in here. I understand that tensions are high but I would ask that everyone takes a step back and calms down. I don't want to have to start handing out suspensions.

Thanks.

8 + 6, yeah it seems strange for them to slap on an 8 pin instead of just an extra 6 pin. And it deffinatly was not modified after the fact from the markings on the PCB. it is supposed to be a custom MSI RX480 with a 290x Lightening cooler slapped on to get a few pics to bypass NDA.

Was there a Fury-P with 6+ 8 Pin?

It can't be an overclocked 2/390X, score is too high.
