Radeon RX 480 "Polaris" Launched at $199

Geez.. Im lookin at ebay for 980ti and there going for about 200-250 notes. Id seriously go for one of them than the 480 at that price. Why are they so cheap there? Doubt they would be faulty either and probably has some warranty too if asked and got a receipt. The 480s to compete with second hand 980ti need to be well under 200 notes i reckon.

you must be on another fleabay than me then
all i am seeing sold recently £300 is msi 980ti & g1 ect good cards great price

Well i saw one for 190 completed and one for i think 250 or somit but the 190 one said when i clicked on it that it was removed from ebay. :/

The 250 one was http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/4-Months-...D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557 feedback was 0 tho so meh dunno if a real auction tbh. Actually same auction was sold in may too for more, somit very fishy on that one too.

Btw gibbo winking to me indicates he has one on his desk and maybe had the crew there benching and getting reviews ready for end of the month. I bet loads of stock has arrived too. Eh gibbo. ;) ;)

I hope this card can deliver excellent price to perf.

Looking at the chiphell's video leak with the 3268 Firestrike Ultra score, that card had a 6+8 pin connector. Cant see why a 100w card needs them connectors so I'm thinking it maybe fake. Hopefully my thinking is wrong.

was already said; the BEAST MODE cards from aftermarket could/would come with 6 and 8 pin for high OCing.....

That would be nice to see, but looking at AMD's own benchmarks from their slides it would seem it's not faster than the 970.

Sorry Dave - but all the leaks show otherwise.

470 benches show it matching 290 - specially my 290 which is clocked at 1040 speed which is more along the lines of 290X......

We know for a fact 290X matches 970 most of the time........so no way 480 just matches 970.

Leaks show it at least 980+ I have a feeling AMD is underplaying this card for a reason......

@siriq111

So possibly 8gb ones for about just a smidgen under £200 as euros to pounds would be about that. Also germany vat is 19% so vat differences will be 1% from conversion of currency.

Edit - nvm that list is for system builders do not really indicative of retail prices.

Great 470 score. That could be a very good buy for £140/150.

way I'm looking at it if the 470 matches my 290 with its core at 1040 - then I'll pick one up for my second machine and get 480 for my main and sell my 290.......possibly less for 300 :D can't really sneeze at that *actually would be because of the sell of my 290* :D more like getting the 470 free :D

I wonder. If 980ti somehow gets to around 250-300 price range even 2nd hand market if new isnt able to. What reason i wonder should i as an example go for a 480 when a 980ti would be more attractive to me if i wanted to stay with nvidia. As a 480 a medium quality one would probably be about 250 at least yeah? As i wouldnt touch the blower cheapest ones but also wouldnt touch the highest end ones as pennies are important and no need to go to extremes for a cooler really. Vram isnt a issue say as i think 6gb would be more than enough from a 980ti so the 480s 8gb is mute point for example to me.

As when all this talk of 480s came out i thought hmm a card thats good at about 970-980 levels for under £200 for 8gb as well. Sounded great. But now the 8gb is probably gona go up to 230 but 250 for a reasonable aftermarket one. So now the fabled 199 dollar card doesnt seem quite as cheap and powerful as it sounded in the presentation i guess is what im wondering.

Oh and another question. Anyone know yet if the 480s would come with dvi as my monitors are vga so i use a vga to dvi adapter still as i never got around to buying a new monitor when my dvi capable monitor died.

its been said aftermarket partners would most likely put dvi on their cards while ref amd won't - but most likely adapter will come with the cards for dvi most likely

BREXIT pressure will screw up prices. It is happening already. So i wouldn't say how much yet.

why? 480 is newer card - used 980ti would have almost no warranty - or very limited - and possiblity of 480 getting a lot stronger as drivers improve specially in DX 12 - I wouldn't pick a used 980ti over it......

Also can you play hyper settings on a 980ti in Mirrors Edge? It's only going to get worse for cards with less than 8GB. More games will be using DX12 Async Compute which will benefit AMD cards.

I can actually shed a little light on that one as it was me who bought it for £250 - I figured that price was worth a try, especially with the whole ebay money back guarantee if it was dodgy. But the seller cancelled about an hour later and I got a refund. Thought the price was a little too good to be true.

But a few days later I did buy a 2 month old MSI 980 ti for £310 - again it was from a newly registered guy with little feedback, but took the plunge anyway. Thankfully this time the seller was really helpful, sent me over the receipt too so I could register the card in my name, plus could confirm it was indeed only 2 months old. Have the card installed now and its running great!

So you can find some good deals about now, even if you do have to gamble a little. Though I'm happy with a fairly new MSi 980 ti for £310 :)

you still griefing? get over it dude. If people want to go buy a 1070/1080 then go ahead and buy one. Why come into this thread and hope AMD can get Nvidia to reduce prices?
That was not me 'griefing' over that, but I thought it was a valid perspective to have.

Anyways, glad you finally agree that buying Nvidia products is fine.

Also, I've heard plenty of AMD supporters have the same sentiment. Again, this is not an AMD fan club thread. Please don't try and police it like one.
