Radeon RX 480 "Polaris" Launched at $199

Do not create false hype, its going to be a great card but no matter what you do to it I am afraid it won't be rivalling a 980Ti or Titan X.

Man, that's put a bit of a downer on things. Price is the only thing to hype about now. I'm definitely getting one though as it will be the best option for my price range, just not godly speeds

Nope but I think anyone expecting it to rival 1070 / 980Ti / Titan X is smoking the crack pipe as we put it, of course a pair of them then its a different story. :D

The thing is Gibbo its what you would expect for a $300 card.

Or its just another 290/X 970/80. more of the same for the same money.

Its crap.

If its as you say AMD are smoking a crack pipe if they think they are going to sell it.

Its not at all unreasonable to expect an upgrade in performance for the money you paid 4 years ago.

It's pretty obvious really. People expecting, or pretending to expect, a £200-ish card to rival a £400 one are either extremely gullible or laying the seeds to be able to say on launch day that it's a massive disappointment because it doesn't. It was absolutely never on the cards.

Agreed. It's crossed my mind several times reading some posters here that they're hyping something up just so they can say it's a disappointment (EDIT: I don't mean humbug). It's been said over and over again that this is not a competitor to the 1070. Why some people insist on believing that a card so much cheaper is pitched as a competitor to it, I don't know. Hence the suspicion that some have a different motive.

It looks like a great card from what we know about its price and performance. And as has been pointed out ad infinitem, £400-600+ cards are just a small section of the GPU market.

So not going to be 980ti performance even overclocked and the 980 cards are now reduced to sub £300 on OCUK. Guessing the RX480 will be 200-300 and 980 speeds with 8GB memory instead of 4GB? Seems like an anticlimax. Maybe has a place with the lower end market or maybe mid at a push, but I would get a few for 150-185 at sub 980 speeds with 8GB RAM. I think if they change more than £200 they are having a laugh, but sub 200 they would sell like hot cakes

Well you have been one of the worst for getting hype to a massive level and now you say this. I understand the disappointment but there is a reason it is $200 and that isn't because AMD are a charity.

If only that were so, $300 will amount to £300 here

Gibbo said its not going to match a 980TI no mater what you do to it it implies that its no faster than a 390/X

If you think about that its £300 for more of the same and the 1070 suddenly looks mega cheap at £400 and faster than a Titan-X.

AMD are not going to sell any of these above £200. its wants to be about £160.

Edit: Greg i'm not disappointed, i'll just buy a different card, I just don't understand why AMD would sell a slow card for so much money, that's all :)

Problem is Greg, that $200 is going to equate to £220 for UK customers, its barely cheaper than a 390 at that price and seemingly hardly an upgrade on that as well :(

I still have hope that the AIB cooled and tweaked options could bring up the performance somewhat for a smallish increase in price!

I don't remember anyone ever mentioning $300. It's always been $200 for the 4GB and $250 for the 8 has it not?

Love the .gifs guys, The paper aeroplane launch and the train wreck.gif were amusing. Shame the hype has started to come to an end really as i was looking forward to another week of this.

Before the hype it was a great card for the price. Now the hype of a RUMOUR is dying down its crap?

Well, that's what happens when you fall for hype lol

I think deep down, we all want to see AMD do well and really hoping it would be tapping up a Titan X/980Ti, even if it required an overclock to do it and all for $200 but AMD are having to build from the ground up and will start with the entry level VR performance card at a real competitive price and that isn't a bad thing at all. I hope it sells by the bucket load and still really tempted to grab one for reviewing and genuinely think that this will be a sweet 1080P card.

Well it shouldn't be expensive like that and if there is masses of stock (according to Gibbo there is), no reason this card needs some gouging and some careful price watching will pay off.
