Radeon RX 480 "Polaris" Launched at $199

Pssst people, OCUK have a great price on the Acer 1440p 144hz IPS Freesync panel, its like £380! go Freesync and never look back :) perfect companion for your newly bought RX 480...

Wait, so people will buy new cards and watercool them, but wont spring the dosh for some adaptive sync monitors ? lol :)

I think a Freesync or G-Sync screen is a must now with gaming, if your water cooling components your obviously an enthusiast, and the monitor is probably the most important thing in a PC as thats the actual thing your looking at to get the enjoyment from.

Might just be me, but if im going to Watercool a GPU its cos i wanna clock the hell outta it to get top end frame rates with all the bells and whistles etc, which means i want a decent monitor to do it justice, and because i care about fps, i want an adaptive sync one to go with it.

But thats just me.

I've already got a 120hz monitor. To my mind, current monitors arent going to give me much more than what I've got, not like £400 more anyway. I've been looking at upgrading it, but I'm not sure freesync is going to be enough to make me think that was money well spent...

For me personally - owning a 290x....

If the 480 at stock is somewhere between Nano and Fury and can OC well, i'll buy it as soon as it lands on OCUK - Probably with a Freesync monitor. Got a 27" IPS 1440p Dell at the moment but fancy taking advantage. Actually - i'll probably buy 2 if crossfire is improved.

If the 480 performs around the 390x mark - but can OC well. I'll likely wait until custom boards are around, see how far an OC custom board can reach.

For me the 480 has to be between Nano and Fury (As WCCFTech leak suggests) and OC close to if not bang on 980Ti stock speeds to really make a big impact on the market. If not i'll keep the 290x till the 1080 prices fall a bit.

Fair enough if you already have 120hz, would still want an adaptive sync monitor though, as games get more demanding you can think of it as a kinda safety net to help you keep a decent framerate until you really struggle and drop outta the adaptive sync range, and by that time its time to upgrade your GPU anyhow :)

But yeah its a lot of money to spend if your only really gaining a few hz and an adaptive sync tech. You could definitely wait it out longer.

I can let you have a active mini dp to dvi adaptor but it looks like the 480 only has full size dp ports so I don't know if it would be any use to you

I came to look up how much the R80 might be worth and found a captain looking for 80 squids...

Seriously though can someone give break down of all the rumours please? So many contradictory statement over so many pages. My mind is confused.
It's pointless, there are so few facts in amongst all the contradictions.

As a wise man once said on this forum "The people that know aren't allowed to say anything and the rest talk ***** " or words to that effect.
