That's just Fud spreading fud. We have official benchmarks from AotS and those show that 2xRX480 are about equal to a single GTX 1080 with the exact same settings.
Yeah, what I figured. Why do people do that?

so procedural generation just happened to make every frame look less detailed on the 480's for the entire bench run
yeah, it could happen I guess
"Every frame"? How exactly do you think that procedurally generated terrain wouldn't make every frame different? Do you imagine that all frames would be the same and then suddenly for a fraction of a second one frame has a crater flash by? Of course procedurally generated terrain changes every frame.

2 480's running at 52% utlisation is only slightly above using a single 480, it makes no sense that 2 cards showing only barely half utilisation would be beating a much faster card running near full utilisation
What I mean is, why is it that every section of every piece of detail is lower on the 480's. If the difference was purely down to procedural generation then there should be some sections and items on the 1080's that look less than the 480's, but looking through the images it is ALWAYS the 480's that show less detail, never the 1080.
I will always add a lot of value to having the solution in a single card. I view CF / SLi as primarily a means for people to upgrade who already have one card and can't / wont spend a fortune to replace it with a single double-power card. So if the performance is roughly equal, I'd suggest the 1070.
That said, I personally would recommend holding on for the actual launch of Polaris because they might have other news and we might also find out more about when Vega is released. You don't want to be regretting buying a 1070 within five months of buying it.
Yeah well done, what really happens with procedural generation is it doesn't change the map when generating it, it changes it on the fly, because it makes perfect sense to have more snow one frame, then less snow the next frame, then more snow the next frame, repeating infinitely.....

But we wanted orange.
I built a new rig around 3-4 weeks ago, and I'm currently using on-board graphics. I was waiting for the 1070, which is just about bearable. Don't think I can wait any longer!
so any idea when the real uk prices will hit and something other than the ashes demo to go off matt ? im sat here waiting to order a 1080 come end of the month gosh darn it!!!
Lisa Su (CEO) said they will be on shelves on the 29th June.
yeah i know that but you'd hope they would put a bit more info out than the day they release especially if they have the claimed performance. the longer we wait the more questions will get asked.
I think they are holding out due to the 1070's imminent release. It's perfectly understandable.
I think the idea is they want questions to be asked right now. I am sure all questions will be answered before release date.
You should just make a decision on the 29th either way. We will all have a much clearer picture then.
You said end of the month and there are 30 days in June.
