Radeon RX 480 "Polaris" Launched at $199

Though that is a fairly heavily clocked 970, it's still pointing to the same thing - the 480 well behind the 970. Meaning something is not right, whatever the case. Wouldn't say 'fake', but this may well be a case where a person not using a proper driver is getting subpar results.

I do not own a RX 480, as the original GTA V - RX 480 video belongs to GGPC and can be watched here:

This is not an apples to apples comparison.

The systems being used are different and GTA's graphical settings are only slightly different.

In the advance graphics options I had to drop the Extended distance scaling to medium because the GTX 970 doesn't have enough VRAM. Other than that, the settings are the same.

GTX 970 video was recorded with external recorder, and I cannot comment on the RX 480 video.

The recording system might be different.

Oh no I agree. You just seem to be thinking it will be more towards the positive rumour leaks than the negative. That could be called wishful thinking...

Well, I am not sure how you read that in my posts to you.

I hope for the best for every card that's released and try to be more positive than negative. But try not to be too caught up in the hype good or bad.

It's another clown card :p

Yep.Its not fake, it was pointed out you can see the RX 480 listed in the Overwatch settings of this video.
Overwatch RX 480 Gameplay FPS Test
(just in case the time-stamp link doesnt work, its at 0:57)

And he redid his GTAV test with setting that look more reasonable for a ~$200 GPU.
GTA 5 RX 480 + i5-6400 Benchmark

Still all on un-official drivers I assume though.

I would hope so, that GTA V bench was stuttering and pausing like a mofo!

I can't wait to read this thread after release :p

The settings he uses for the hardware he's testing is just "odd" to say the least.
He shouldnt even be touching advanced settings with that CPU, and other odd setting choices.
Apparently choosing proper test settings to match the hardware being tested is too much of a mental challenge for some.
Now we know why games have presets.....for those who have no clue what theyre doing.

The point of this is to provide a benchmark, not to show what are good, playable settings.

And an i5 Skylake is nothing to sneeze at. Not like he's running some AMD CPU or something.

ok I ran the same gta benchmark with my 4gb 960 and i3 6100,8gb 2133 ram..nothing overclocked just standard and I'm roughly the same fps in the video but the card and cpu were maxed out,i was a couple of fps behind in some places and 10 fps behind in others..lets hope its the drivers :)

2.7ghz with DDR 4 2133 he most certainly is CPU bound with those settings.

i5 3470 keeping up with a 4770k pretty reasonably. And Skylake apparently performs quite well in gaming compared to Sandy/Ivy Bridge from what Digital Foundry showed recently. Either way, shows a 10% reduction in performance from 3.5Ghz to 2.5Ghz, which isn't drastic.

And there aint nothing wrong with that RAM.

And that's at 2560x1600 at 1920x1080 he will be even more CPU bound.
So he cranks up the settings that are most taxing on the CPU while using lower settings for the ones that tax the GPU the most.

Would you choose the same settings he did if you were testing a GPUs performance with that hardware?
