Radeon RX 480 "Polaris" Launched at $199

Lol at the presentation of the 480, they tried to get 3d mark to run, i noticed a driver has stopped responding near the clock area and they are messing around doing all sorts to try and fix it. :D Drivers will suck apparently. :D

it's actualy not bad for reference, 970AMP! is about 980 performance, would have been a lot better if it did beat it thou.

hope not, they have been doing very well in that departement, if they screw it here, it might just wipe all the work they for this past year driver side.

Actually in most games the Zotac 970 AMP is around 5%-10% slower than a 980 which means RX 480 gets nowhere near 980 (with this review at least). If we are to believe this review the "mythical magic" drivers need to give a 15%-20% boost or RX 480 is actually slower than R9 390. It needed to be 390X or 980 performance for it to be a decent upgrade.

R9 390 8GB has been available for over a year at ~£230 and to match that performance and price puts RX 480 in the crap camp. I suspect 390X level performance overall to be honest, or the 480 specs just do not make sense and AMD have actually regressed in performance.

So slower than an OC GTX 970, and we know those OC like beasts. This isn't going to be pretty for AMD. No wonder Raja is trying to divert people's attention to Vega.

So let me get this straight, the 380X beats an overclocked 970 in Metro:LL 1080p and practically matches it in World of Tanks while beating the 480 that is supposed to be twice the speed. sounds legit

All absolute rubbish imo. Leaving the 480 for one moment, the 380X is nowhere near a stock 970 let alone an OC version. How can anyone take these results seriously?

Nope. It's far from a GTX 980. Once overclocked further it reaches GTX 980 speeds.

the scan says...overcloked 970Amp! not a stock one, thats why i said it's not bad, that 970 would be mostly with 980, still need more info from that review, like 970 clock, 480clock, and drivers.
and it must not be small overclock, did you see the score of that OC 380X ? that card is supposed to be 50% slower than 980, personallyn i think it's a typo, maybe 390 i dont know..

It beat it with medium settings.

Didnt you know, amd have magic drivers that can put a gfx card past what its competing with. :p

Just stumbled across this....

"AMD Radeon RX 480 and Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 are the best graphic cards in the market with the increasing need for virtual reality (VR). While AMD RX 480 cannot rival Nvidia GTX 1080 in terms of performance, for some reasons users may choose to go for the former."

.......but according to those benchmarks they're completely different beasts and price points. Think i'll hold out until multiple genuine reviews have been released!

Any idea how quick the turn around time on AIB's will be?

ouch.. at least it's better than my 380. Does the article go into noise at all? So.. am i better off going for a 390X Strix? Those are supposed to be fairly quiet right?

Honestly the RX 480 is basically starting to look and sound much like a GTX 970 with more memory. Boggles the mind that nvidia did all of this two years ago on 28nm.

Reading around the hype, if its to be believed, I don't trust that review :p
