Radeon RX 480 "Polaris" Launched at $199

Honestly the RX 480 is basically starting to look and sound much like a GTX 970 with more memory. Boggles the mind that nvidia did all of this two years ago on 28nm.

Na that review had to been done at least 2 weeks ago to make it to print which means they wouldn't have the new drivers.

In all honesty hope this card performs well, it benefits us all in the end.

The irony of it all is... it doesn't matter how well it performs! Tomorrow you'll have half the people comparing it based on cherry-picked results to make it look bad and the other half doing the same to make it look good...

I think I'm going to impose a 96-hour moratorium on posting about this... Ride out all the trolling...

Most of us feel the same way.

But this card has been hyped to hell and back, is AMD's front and center 'posterboy' for the new node jump and clearly has a whole lot riding on it in terms of market strategy.

The card could be 'decent' and still be justifiably deemed somewhat a failure. It needs to be special.

So reviews are released at the same time the cards release.

That makes sense

In the scheme of things, the people who buy the second the card is released are a tiny minority.

Most people won't mind waiting a day or two read all the reviews.

And probably only 0.1% of cards sold are sold on the day of release. So it isn't really a huge deal, I don't think?

Someone on AT said it was tested with the non-review drivers,ie,the ones available on the 22nd of June.

Back to the hype train. Choo-choo!

Are you joking ?

Most people can't wait a day or two judging by the clamouring for the nvidia cards.
Except the GTX 1080 on launch day was the highest selling card by nvidia ever.
Has everyone forgot what happened with the 1080 ?
GTX 1080. NDA to stop all talk about it till day of release.
AMD 480. NDA to stop all talk about it till day of release.

no surprise. People hovering over that buy button at 2pm tomorrow.

I'd believe yesterday's arkham knight and 3dmark results more than this printed paper since they actually show the screenshots with GPU-z. Those put the 480 at around 980/390X level which is more believable based on it's theoretical performance.

edit: What most people don't realise is that the Zotac 970 OC outperforms a stock 980:

Since the Polish magazine review was done with old drivers I suspect the final result with proper drivers will be a surprise to those who are panning the card right now. The 480 is keeping up with an OC 970 without the review drivers. Interesting.
