Radeon RX 480 "Polaris" Launched at $199

Gibbo your difference in price between the 4gb and 8gb models has nothing to do with exchange rates!

You have a £50 difference between them????

The $ price difference is $30. Even if the pound was 1:1 with the $, you could only have a £30 difference between 4gb and 8gb models.

So what is going on?

I suspect you know the 8gb model is the one everyone wants... and gouging is accurate in this case.

Gouging is not accurate, nominate any forum member who is local, they can come in, I shall show them our purchase orders on all RX-480's and they will then see all cards are at single digit margins.

Seriously nominate someone to come in, or anyone local who wishes to come in I will happily show them. :)

Our cost difference is $40-$50 between 4G & 8G !!!!

What is the general opinion, Struggling to watch as I am at work.

Slower then a 390 in most games, it pulls ahead in some. Seems too find 1440p more difficult then the 390. Could only get a 1.5% OC which made it hit 91c, anything higher made it crash so nothing close too 1500mhz just yet. Right now I think its a hard pass.

Freesync range tends to vary quite a bit depending on monitor.

Gsync has a generally larger range on average and seems to have a few advantages in terms of compatibility with certain output modes.

I'd say Gsync is functionally superior at the moment, but that can change. And its extra cost is debatable.

Big problem either way is that you're locked into buying a certain GPU brand to make full use of whatever monitor you buy.

24" 1080p 144hz Freesync

Oh dear.

Oh oh oh everybody jump off the train

And that's why I didn't jump on the hype train :p

Gsync is 30hz and up.
Which is more significant than it might seem if you find variable refresh rates useful for not needing to play at 60fps. A game that drops down below 40fps will suddenly lose its variable refresh rate and it will be VERY noticeable.

30-60fps is really where variable refresh rates shine the most, too. Once you're at 90fps and above, the frames are coming fast enough that having a locked refresh rate becomes less noticeable.

That said, Freesync can actually go all the way down to 20hz, so it's really a matter of which monitor you're looking at. Hopefully Freesync becomes more standardized going forward, while also improving its range and output capabilities.
