Radeon RX 480 "Polaris" Launched at $199

Surely the prices they're available at today are the only ones that matter. The 390X isn't much more currently, performs better and clocks better.

Don't you get it? Don't you *understand*? You're not allowed to say anything that makes the 480 look bad.

The fact that we've had 390s for £240 loooooooooooong before the 480 came out... must not be mentioned!

Buy a 480! Support Red!

(Or wait for the 1060, should be 480+ perf for even less power! If power consumption means as much as AMD fans here are saying, then why wouldn't you buy a 1060 with EVEN LESS power draw? :p)

we shall see once the AIB Boards land, AMD not been strong in first reviews for years.

Its only once the drivers mature and overclocking results are considered I think it will be knocking on the door of the 980.

If i was buying now for my PC I would assume 980 perf out of the 480.

Where in the reliable reviews do they say the 480 is a bad card or something in that vein ?

To be fair, I did expect more but the 4GB is very keenly priced, so much so that i've dropped the money on one.

The 8GB is just silly though, you've got to be mad to pay £50 more for that.

PCPER says both cards are the same - so it will be interesting to see if people can re-enable the RAM if it does actually have 8GB.

For those asking about the girl... ;)

What did you just doo!!!!!!!

Really? That's actually quite funny. What was the point then, I assumed the £50 saving was down to less RAM chips physically on the card.

im with a vapor-x 290x and paid £220 1 year ago, stil beats the rx 480, i know less power but no reason to go and sell my gpu i will keep my card till it dies or 2 more years i play everything at 2k im good. oced to 1100/1600

From a German review site:

Another quality AMD launch.

:D

they found the bug - sent out drivers that fix it - if the reviews didn't bother to use the new drivers; could explain the lower performance and higher power useage......

like I said I don't think we've really seen the 480 stretch its legs yet....

The reference board are crap. Lower voltage increases performance and actually lowers power usage by 50 Watt.

Maybe suggests that reference models are using really low binned chips compared to the AIB models? Perhaps that's where the 1.5GHZ+ overclock rumours come from. If that's the case we could be seeing AIB cards which have way better performance at the same power draw as the ref cards.

I have a variety of GPUs and performance tools - I do a bit of casual game development so have a fairly good idea about that stuff.

Okay. You understand why I asked though because there are often people claiming they've "run out of memory" because they see it full. I'll remember that you're a game developer in future. Cheers.
