Radeon RX 480 "Polaris" Launched at $199

So its ok that some people could pay £175 for it and a few hours later others having to pay £188 for the same card from the same warehouse from the same pile? Its not like it was on some time sensitive special offer.

Gibbo already explained they planned on selling hundreds of these at a minimal markup, because the huge numbers would make it worth while. However now he has been let down on stock it is not worth selling the little they have for such a fine margin.

Do you really think they would want people out grabbing the 4 gig cards if they get more for 8 gig cards?

Yes. Also if AMD had trouble sourcing faster GDDR5 I doubt they would put 8 chips or a 4gb card and then disable 4 of them.:confused:

The 4gb cards will only have 4gb physical chips.

If there was a way to see post counts for individual members in this thread, I think you'd see hundreds of replies for a few people ;)

There is. Just go to the main page (graphics cards), click on the replies count for this thread and up pops a list. :)

The performance of Polaris is all over; at times it beats 980 without a sweat and other times it can't beat 970.......

Drivers, everyone was saying exactly the same thing about the Fury X when it was released.

By the time they sort the drivers, everyone waiting for those cards to release, would have bought another one after seeing the reviews (a one from Nvidia), and newer cards would be here/coming, as look how long it took them to get the Fury X away from the 980 to where it should have been, competing with the Ti, they need decent drivers on release, not months down the line, when everyones already bought another card, and bought it from Nvidia.

I can see the 1060 being better than the 480 as well on its release, so theres yet more sales that are going to be lost.

They've had the cards since last year, as they've just been ******* about since then, showing them running the odd game/benchmark, so they must have been working on the drivers as well in all that time, and thats about 6 months now, so how come they are still shoddy!.

Slightly worrying for the life expectancy of motherboards!

Yes very worrying as the card is aimed for OEM's and lets face it there Mb's will be the cheapest low/ avg spec they can use ...they possibly may have to use a specific boards that you can plug in extra molex power ect who knows

All so the card is aimed at peeps on a budget so again budget Mb's and old pc systems with old Mb's hate to think what types of nasty oem psu's will be used

I really do want AMD to do well for all of us re healthy competition better product lower prices..

But reading more into it this could be a very serious issue why did they not just use an 8pin ?....

The price increasing for no reason would be the issue in question i think..Its went up almost £15 in the space of a few hours with stock already in hand.

Supply and demand?

No other UK retailers have any stock (of 4GB), OcUK may have sold more than expected or now not received as many hoped, so price has gone up to compensate (and/or to drive sales to the 8GB versions that they do have plentiful stock of)
