Radeon RX480 4GB can be flashed to 8GB version.

No wonder there's barely any 4GB cards around to buy... AMD noticed it and made sure that only very few people could take advantage of it. Or they just knew of this anyway and decided to focus on 8GB card sales for more profit margin. I mean... I don't want AMD to go out of business or anything, but clearly they can sell the 8GB cards for sub £200 as it was meant to be.

It might be if I wanted or needed an upgrade.

Correction... if the RX 480 was in the same price bracket as your current GPU. Or not, no biggie if you want to buy your next GPU at a different price point. But some folks (smarter than most) stick to a single price point when it comes to GPUs. Like folks who buy the x90 card from AMD each time or those who buy the x60 card from Nvidia each time. Except this gen has a sudden price-hike for all.

Loss leader mate, it drums up interest.

Top is my one.

Tried again with VSR using fallout 4 and WoT training map at 4k and got up to 4164MB of memory used

Doesn't seem to work well with two games, I'm sure every time I tab to the next game it chucks out most of the first game so I can't actually fill up the memory at all.

Ugh, I don't have anything which could fill over 4gb on its own.

Fair play to those who saved £55 and got the same card. I am a little jealous in truth but I am sure AMD knew what was what and sold them at cost and hence why there was only a few of the 4GB cards available. They could at least say they sold a 480 for $199 and it looks good in the press.

hehe i bought the 8 gig sapphire one on launch, congrats to any guys that unlock the 4 gig to 8 gig :)

that is awesome bang per buck :)

Meh I was thinking of doing it because I had a feeling for this however if I buy I want to be able to overclock it past a Fury so will need to wait for the AIB.

Glad this has worked for me and the others on here.

I am taking a leave of absence from GPU section of OCUK now lol.

The Nvidia shills, and fanboys have made this place toxic imho.

I will miss the few good guys on here though. Take it easy (:

I know exactly how you feel. Shortly people will be along to tell you about how this is an AMD forum.

Can you forward me the materials required for the job please :D

Would i need to take the card apart to confirm first? Or is it even worth while going from 4gb to 8gb ?

https://www.techpowerup.com/223913/...to-8gb-memory-unlock-mod-works-we-benchmarked

So you download the flashing program: https://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/2728/atiflash-2-74

And the 8GB bios: https://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/184327/amd-rx480-8192-160603

Only 3 buttons: Load Image, Program and Save

Save will save the bios currently on the card, (the 4GB one) to wherever you want. I chose to do that first.

You then use Load Image to select the 8GB bios from wherever you downloaded it.

Then you hit Program and don't fiddle with anything until the progress bar is done.

Your business if you want to take apart the cooler, doing so requires destroying the warranty stickers over the screws.

NECROBUMP....

I have a 4GB RX480 and never flashed it to 8GB but want to do this now. However I've found out that ATIFlash no longer works in Windows 10.

Apart from making a bootable HDD with Windows8 on it, does anyone know of a workaround?

Have you tried the latest version? I used it not long ago to do some 570s.
