I would be gutted
I flashed my Sapphire 4GB 480 just now, a primary school kid could do it.
Literally, I didn't even dismantle the card to check it was 8GB underneath (so brave).
Sooo still totally stock, no fondling of settings:

I risked it:
Blind flashed it without taking warranty stickers off to see what VRAM it had. Only way I could get high VRAM is using VSR and running games in 4K.
Mine is XFX RX480 Core edition GPU.

Thought VSR was a good wheeze to check, turned it on and set two games to run on max detail to get over 4GB but the driver failed at 4GB
Guess I'll have to have a look underneath after all!
Had me paranoid so I had to check one last time with actual gameplay not just the Batman benchmark.
It is definitely addressing more than 4GB with VSR at 4K.

Luckily, overclockers customer support have been rather useless, and even after requesting the RMA a few days ago, I haven't been given a returns label yet. So I still have my card

Tried again with VSR using fallout 4 and WoT training map at 4k and got up to 4164MB of memory used
Doesn't seem to work well with two games, I'm sure every time I tab to the next game it chucks out most of the first game so I can't actually fill up the memory at all.
Ugh, I don't have anything which could fill over 4gb on its own.
