Rage 2 - Announce trailer

Just been announced for release on the 14th May, Bethesda store only, no Steam, so its a no buy from me, utter shame, as loved the first one, and was looking forward to this, ahh well.

If you like a game, why restrict yourself from playing it because you need to install a ridiculously lightweight piece of software that prevents steam from taking more of a share of the gaming market?

As i don't want umpteen Stores, launchers, accounts etc... just to play ******* games, its ridiculous.

A nope from me.

Also a no buy for me.

Hopefully they'll offer it on Steam once sales slow down, It happened with both Dead Rising 4 & Quantum Break after a few months exclusively on the Windows store.

Oh yes. And it has such features as one-click deletion of everything you've downloaded!

 Common sense should have told them that's not a good idea. It sounds like it could be as bad as Blizzard, When Destiny 2 released I got a free copy with something I bought from OCUK (I forget what), At the time I set everything up & even played through the 20 minute opening level, It was okay but I never went back to play it again, Fast forward to a couple of weeks ago & I decided to install Blizzards launcher & Destiny 2 again after doing a complete format & fresh OS install, I installed the launcher & signed into my account but apparently I've never owned Destiny 2, Some launchers are more hassle than they're worth, The Windows store is just as problematic though it hasn't deleted any of my games yet.

As i don't want umpteen Stores, launchers, accounts etc... just to play ******* games, its ridiculous.

I really dislike all this anti-Steam stuff that's going round. They do so much more than any of the other stores so their 30% cut is quite justified if you ask me.

Steam's a great platform but, if your internet connection goes down for any length of time & you get locked out of the account your games are all unusable, I've had several days without the Internet twice since I've had my Steam account & both times I got locked out of my account after 2 or 3 days which makes me wonder if they have some sort of failsafe lockout feature
riddle

GOG on the other hand has no DRM's so having a problem with your Internet is never going to be an issue, As good a platform as Steam is I'm slowly gravitating to GOG whenever possible.

Problem is gaming has become too much of a business and they don't care that many people get quiet enjoyment of a game long after it has left the mainstream consciousness. I refuse to buy any game going onwards from publishers/developers that cut off old games i.e. killing the server without any patch, etc. that enables it offline or community servers or so on and/or withdrawing the game from online platforms in a way that renders it unplayable after that point and so on especially when done to try and force people to buy new IP.

RAGE 2 - Open World Trailer

They know how to make a good trailer I'll give em that. Wish they'd work on the rendering though so that a lot of stuff doesn't look like it is sculptured out of concrete and painted - everything that builds on top of the later version of the idtech4 engine after they introduced megatextures (post Doom 3) onwards like ETQW and RAGE seems to have that problem.

looks good to me i loved the 1st game.

As for the multiple store fronts... it is a tough one. I agree on 1 hand if everything was on steam and valve had a complete and total monopoly it would be nice only having 1 installer. I too hate having origin, steam, uplay, epic, oculus etc etc etc all on my pc.

but on the other hand i look at what valve have done with their 30% for doing the best part of stuff and all off all the games they host, and i have to say .................... why on earth should the likes of EA, ubisoft and bethesday pay valve 30% just to allow them to sell their game?

in a way valve started this whole friggin mess with halflife 2.
before then you bought your game, and if you wanted to you could use any number of game managers, but it was valve who were the 1st to force the issue by making you install a totally unnecessary 3rd party piece of bloat regardless of if you want it or not.

so if this losens valves grip on the PC games market and forces them to actually work for their money again, and actually create some decent games, then more the better. There was a time when valve games were considered decent.

I don't like having loads of different platforms either(though I'm not really that bothered tbh) but...

This.

As for the game, the first one had so much potential, but ultimately ended up a bit dull. I remember that boomerang thing was awesome, and the shotgun was great! Building on it in a sequel could be a great game. The trailer has put it on my radar

I remember the anti-Steam bloat discussions back in 2002 - 2006.... Then it moved onto Origin.

True to a degree but if your account is still logged in, you can sign in with offline mode. I was able to play my games when my connection died for a few days a few months ago.

I was able to launch my games through Origin with some trickery.

It's funny that Quake 3 servers are still running. https://www.quakeservers.net/quake3/servers/

So we have steam, origin, epic have one, Bethesda have one. Gonna be a pain in the hole this.

I have Steam, Origin, UPlay, Epic, Battlenet, did have Bethesda installed until Quake Champions went to Steam.

Some people are still running Quake 1/World servers and streaming it. Granted it's tiny but it's still alive.

That's how I feel about it too.

I tried that but I wasn't able to sign in offline so maybe they've changed something since then, It's good news if they have.

The problem is that I don't really think steam has evolved that much over the years.

Some of the stuff they've done is cool, but not much of that is going to help keep them as the defacto store.

The current situation with steam not getting games is concerning to me.

I was accepting of origin, but we are getting back to the point of needing a list of where all my games actually are stored.

I want convenience

Can you not just 'add a non-steam game' onto Steam and when you double click it it'll open the appropriate launcher?

I've never used this option before. Does it let you do all the usual Steam things like open the overlay, take screenshots that upload to the Steam servers, allow you to use an unsupported controller like the DualShock 4, etc?
