rage against the x-factor - Outcome: RATM is the Christmas Number One!

I know it wasn't, but it shows they are not doing it for monetary needs and even with the chance of a christmas number 1, they are selling records and doing something very beneficial with the money.

How can you knock that at all?

Shows the movement of people can change aspects of life, and i this case for good because a charity is gaining money?

I'm not knocking them, I respect anybody who gives to worthwhile charities but people would still have bought this record for the protest vote.

Look at it this way.

Last year, Fairytale Of New York was re-released. The only difference this time is that we're not waiting on it being re-released before we buy it again, or in most cases, for the first time.

Probably been posted in the thread already, but there's a discussion on the facebook group about getting free downloads that count, from Nokia Music.

To begin with, please don't make multiple accounts with this, there's no reason why all 850,000 can't create one account and the charts company cant hassle us about bulk buying!

If you don't have a Credit Card and want to support Rage for free, there's still a way and I have confirmed with the Charts Company that its eligible!*

1) Go to http://www.nokiamusic.co.uk/ Download and install the player on the main page insuring you select UK when it gives you the setup options!

2) Open the program and click [STORE] /"Join Now", Click "Join Nokia Music", fill out the details to create the account (No credit card details are needed)

4) Go to the main Store page and to the left you will see a box that says "Redeem Pin" Click on "Continue"

5) Enter ONE random of these codes, doesn't matter which one! Each one will give you £4 free credit and that's all you need to buy all 5 versions of the song, you can get up to £16 worth if you use all the codes, but please don't as Nokia may pull it if its abused!

6) Search for: Rage Against The Machine - Killing in the name of

7) Click the Orange down arrow next to each of the songs, then click the blue tick.

Congratulations you have just contributed [=

Thanks to the others who found this method! Now lets spread the word!

*I rang The Official UK Charts Company to see if tracks bought from Nokia Ovi Player are still eligible for the UK top 40 singles chart. They confirmed that they are as long as its bought with a UK account!

Who's fault is it that pop drivel is in the charts every week?
Answer, mine, yours and everybody else in this thread.
If we aren't willing to buy decent music and get it into the charts then we have no right to protest about it by buying a one off single.
As soon as this is over how many of you will try to make an impact on the singles charts with the music you love?

Errrr, I dont see how it's mt fault.
I by the music I love and I tend to despise what I hear on the radio on my drive to work in the mornings, be it a new Chipmuck or JLS or a Sugababe <<Insert radioplayartisthere>> Heck I actually turn down the sounds while the music is on most of the time... as I like to hear the jabber of the DJ's as apposed to the songs they play (Chris Moyles in particular but that's another topic of discussion)
I dont like what pretty much all pop artists produce, so I dont buy it... hell I wont even illegally download it.
I will admit to having guilty pleasures and will bop my head to a poppy tune now and again... but I never buy them.

How is the drivel I hear on a daily basis my fault?

both tunes in question are on the same record label
twice as much money going to the cat

This has been established many times in this thread, it nothing to so with the record label. And Simon Cowell has nothing to do with RATM before you say, so zero money goes to him.

I don't really get this campaign.

If nobody talented enough can make a decent song to compete with whatever the xfactor winner churns out, its hardly Simon Cowell's fault is it?

Don't get me wrong Im not a massive fan of pop music but Joe has got a great voice. Personally I prefered Olly as an entertainment package and Danyl for his voice but neither of them are karaoke singers.
Obviously the hardcore rockers and anyone else jumping on this bandwagon will disagree and stubbornly refuse to admit that some of them actually can sing (mainly through being narrow minded and only appreciating one genre of music). I actually like the RATM song. The problem with music is people sticking to one genre of music because they are too pig headed to think anything else is as good.

For instance a girl at my work ONLY likes hardcore rock/metal. So all I get all day while Radio 1 is playing is... "oh this is crap, whats this rubbish?!?!?". To me thats just trying to act cool. You dont have to like something to appreciate it.

Just all seems a bit childish to me if I'm honest. If Mariah Carey had just recorded All I want for christmas this year, I have absolutely no doubt that it would be number one above any Xfactor wnners song.

Which kinda proves my point.

How many artists release songs this week. Try and find out tommo how many artists released a song in the UK this week to try to beat Joe? The only one I can find who released this week is Cole. In years before the Xfactor you used to have a bumper release week from re-releases of old christmas classics to mr blooby but then there was some competition for No 1 spot now it's ruined and x-factor have become so complacent about it they don't even bother creating a song just a re-hash of a disney song that should be sung by a country girl.

Cyrus version actually sounds quite good.

What I *really* like about all of this is that Cocky Cowell was in the news just before the facebook kickoff because he refused to commit to a new contract with ITV until he gets more money for the show.

Then this brilliant passive tour-de-force comes along and rocks the boat, fantastic.
