If i set up a RAID 0 on my new pc with vista on it - before installing vista do i need to give the OS the Intel(R) ICH9 SATA RAID Controller (Desktop ICH9R) or does it already have them on the DVD/CD?

I had to give it the driver, vista supports usb keys with the driver on which made it a lot easier for me since I dont have a floppy disc drive!

You dont need to install any RAID Drivers when installing Vista, it will reconise the disks already.

Thats if he is installing vista on a single drive in "legacy" mode, it will require the raid drivers once he has set his RAID 1 array up!

Was you using software raid? I have seen a couple of ICH8R chipsets with vista require RAID drivers and a ICH5R too.

Vista certainly didn't recognise the nVidia nVraid that I have on my DFI Lanparty UT SLI-D, and nVidia hadnt released the drivers (they have now!) i had to use beta drivers and i kept getting BSODs :(

Cool the motherboard will be the Gigabyte GA_P35C_DS3R so i might not need the drivers. I will just have to wait and see or any one wanna guess or know?!? lol

I've just set up my PC with that motherboard and three HDDs set up on a RAID 5 array in the yellow SATA sockets. I was installing with Vista Ultimate 32-bit, and I required no disks.

You should be fine.

when I installed my Raid 0, vista automatically detected the drive - basically you don't need to do that f6 floppy thing.

depends on the RAID controller - if you do need drivers during setup, its much easier than XP - you can just bung them onto a USB drive or stick, or even a CD/DVD and ask Windows to search them for a suitable driver. I had a nightmare with my raid controller, but only because Nvidia werent developing Vista drivers for 'old' chipsets

If its a fairly new motherboard, chances are you wont need to add drivers during setup.
