I'm in need of a decent raid card.

I'm after uber ones.

But not looking to spend a bomb £100 max really.

After brands and models just to look out for.

Only need one that will take 2/3 drives.

I'll be throwing my 2 WD Cavalier REs on it. As the 650i onboard raid is pants and keeps corrupting.

Cheers

What RAID level are you looking to run, RAID0 I assume? In which case you're not looking for anything fancy and hence the £100 budget isn't going to be a problem really. Something like an Adaptec 1430SA or a Highpoint RocketRaid 2300/2310 should be fine.

Have you checked for BIOS/driver updates before you go spending hard cash though?

i'd prefer a raid card as i'm gunna be swaping mobos over xmas for my new build and will be swaping my HDD and saves me having to rebuild it, and i've tried loads of stuff to get it to work and i've given up.

IIRC its raid 0 as i just want them to have the fasts read time. But raid 5 will be handy if poss so i can add another drive for some protection ;)

The RocketRAID cards I mentioned will do RAID5 but I wouldn't want to use them for anything other than a storage array, the write speed isn't that great. You need to spend serious cash (£250+) for something like a small Areca card if you want decent RAID5 write performance.

There's very little that a card can do to help with RAID0 so there won't be much difference between them, I'd say go with the Adaptec simply because OCUK have them in stock. That is assuming you have a 4x PCIe slot free (or a 16x), if you only have 1x slots left then it'll need to be one of the Highpoint cards or there's a 2 port Adaptec 1x card on here if you can manage with just 2 drives
