It's not about DOING something about the poor. Dosn't matter how much people DO something for the poor... It will never be enough.

Because religion deserves to be bashed. Gay people don't.

Essentially, all religions cause severe problems in the world (but it seems the 'biggest offenders' are the Abrahamic ones). They collectively murder and maim millions of people whether directly or indirectly, enslave civilisations and enslave intellect. Those who claim to be 'religious moderates' are merely subscribing to the same following and in fact giving legitimacy to the more extremes just in sheer number fodder.

Yeh I think you'd get an equally strong response. People seem to have a specific dislike for Islam for some fairly obvious reasons (though, as much of a religious critic as I am, the views of certain Muslims certainly don't represent that of the majority).

I would bash Christians equally.

The main difference would be I am not sitting here telling the world how righteous I am using the poor as an excuse for observing a cultural tradition.

So basically you're starving yourself a bit to ease your conscience (just as a Christian might give up something for Lent, or pray), all the while nothing changes and no/little actual charity takes place.

You're tricking yourself into believing you're 'sharing the pains' of this world.

Religion is great.

Actually, no it isn't. It is a pacifier for the conscience and a crutch for people afraid of taking responsibility for their own actions, which a few elitests grant you in exchange for their own power and selfishness.

IT IS NOT OK. No one has said it is, you will always get people having a crack at religion, you did the exact same thing at Christianity so what makes you any better?
