ramthor's monster build

Second shipment turned up 'cos the driver already had those items! (could also be a different driver)
Might be worth pointing out to --snip-- that you offered to sign, the driver refused and now it shows as a different name. Lends weight to your claim and they might actually sort the delivery issue for next time you want to order something (if that's ever!)

Permit me to play devils advocate here for a minute.

From --snip-- point of view, the item was delivered to the correct address. This is usually the important part since its generally safe to leave an item with anyone at that address.

The signature is useless. I deal with a few couriers, and those electronic pads they use are so useless that I couldn't give them a proper signature even if I wanted to.

Now, they sometimes ask for a name - which they type in - but again, it doesn't really matter what name I give.

So, the point is, who do --snip-- believe? Obviously you wouldn't trust the courier, but they have to draw the line somewhere. The only option in this case would be for a police action, since they are supposed to stop fraudulent activity from happening.

So, if --snip-- gave you a refund with no hassle once you provided a crime reference number, then they could argue that they followed the right course of action. Totally unfair to you, of course, but just part of doing business.

Now, assuming you believe the fact that the police will treat this the same as mobile phone theft (ie do nothing about it), then what is stopping you from getting items delivered and then claiming they never arrived?

Sorry, not sure why I just decided to write this rambling post, but I have written it now, so might as well leave it :)

It should never be considered safe because it clearly isn't. But if they want to consider it safe then also accept the loss when things go wrong and not passing it to the customer.

If it is useless then why use it? Why not change it with something that is useful like a fingerprint reader? And if it is useless then why use it as an argument for passing the blame onto the customer?

Now, they sometimes ask for a name - which they type in - but again, it doesn't really matter what name I give.
Again why do it then? Change your policies! Make useful ones!

They could take the loss for now and improve so this would not happen again in the future. Passing the blame on the customer and wasting Police's time with fruitless investigations is clearly not the way forward.

Even if I got my refund I am still not a happy customer. They lost more than one customer because people see this, see my review of them on other sites and I talk to my friends and family about it.
That can't be good for their business.

You are suggesting to respond to abuse with abuse. That is never a solution. They should improve or disappear. The Darwinism law of economics. And the more people know about their practices the faster the change.

I would not be using those fans on rads.

If they're not any good I'm sure --snip-- will refund me now. I'm very popular with them, you know? :p

But seriously, they can be good or bad depending on what your goal is. My goal is not breaking down overclocking records nor having the most quiet PC.

If they move the air and look okay-ish they should do it for me.

Right - I have cleaned up the last couple of pages with regards to the competitor mentions and disguised swearing.

This thread has had too many rule breaks - Ramthor I suggest you revisit the FAQ

Specifically the sections on inappropriate language and competitor mentioning. Ignorance is not an excuse - next rule break WILL be a suspension.

The new desk arrived yesterday. Cockpit style corner desk ordered almost a month ago but all I had to do was wait. It was delivered and installed without any extra effort or costs for me. I like it and it is big enough for the monstrous case and the wide monitor which I could not fit on my other workstation.
I could tell you where I've bought it from but I don't want to trigger another obtuse enforcement of the forum rules.

I still don't have all my orders. Still waiting for the RAMs that should have arrived last Friday. Same company... These guys have really lost it!
But I've started the work nevertheless.

Apart from what you see I've washed the 480 GTS rad making a small test loop using some flexi tube, one reservoir and one pump over the sink. Tap water pouring constantly into the res and output from the rad into the sink.
It worked well. No debris at all from inside. At the end I've disconnected the rad and poured some more water inside it then giving it a shake. The water came out still clean. So far so good!

Use some hot water and shake the hell out of it mate, others on here have tried cleaning rads by running a ton of water through them and unfortunately it doesn't shift the flux, so gives issues later on. Hot water seems to soften it enough that a damn good shake will get most of it.

Good to see you've got enough kit to make a start on the build, even if a certain useless company is still messing you about!

I've taken your advice and I've put hot water and gave it another shake. Some bits did come out this time but just a few. I've done it twice but I can't be bothered to keep doing this as I have the feeling that no matter how much you do it you will still have bits coming out of it.

And so it begins !

Mine starts in about 48 hours, I can't wait :D

A monster is born! :p

Good luck in your adventure! ;)

ramthor, I've added a friendly message above. The rules about competitors are well established, if you aren't happy with any of the moderation decisions then start a thread in the FCD forum, where all of the mods will have a chance to reply.

Sure, we can have a discussion about the letter of the law versus the spirit of the law (or rules) and how exactly they apply on my situation above but I'm pretty sure the jury will not side with a random forum user against a fellow moderator no matter what so all I could really expect from posting where you suggest would be an exercise in futility.

I have far better interesting things to do, thank you very much. So let's just leave it as it is.

I'll do my best to follow the letter of your rules, spirit be damned, and if I will fail the world will not end, nor the supply of users for your forum or forums on internet.

But let's forget about all that and focus on why we are all here, shall we?

Here are some more pictures. This is a build log not a soap opera, I swear to God! :)

Any better ideas on how should I hide the fan cables? I tried taking them through the hole above the motherboard tray left hand side but they are still visible.

If I do it like in the image everything will be covered by the top of the case when I put it back on.

From the front that looks invisible to me. You could cable tie them to the loop that's pretty much top dead-centre of rear of the backplate so they aren't visible through the grommets. If you want them tidier at the rear you're gonna have to sleeve them (either flat with 6mm sleeve or split them down the middle, stack them (2x2 instead of 1x4) and sleeve them in 4mm) or do some creative arranging.
