ramthor's monster build

Spoken with the Police and they agreed the --snip-- did a terrible job at investigating this. They gave me the crime report number which I relayed back to Amazon.

Let's see what that does.

I'm telling you, the drama never stops with this build.

Unfortunately that's the way it is when you are doing a build like this. Especially when you are ordering from all over the place, different vendors etc.

Two years ago I had a windfall and decided to scratch the itch of a "Dream PC". Mine turned out to be a complete nightmare. I ordered it from three vendors and two of them messed up royally. They sent three grand's worth of parts with Yodel.

I phoned the company I bought from and they couldn't have cared less. I ended up having to literally follow a trail from my front door to where the Yodel van was parked and there were still missing parts and I had to argue the toss for about a week.

Oh, and I had to order it five times. Every time the payment was stopped by my bank as they thought fraud was happening, and every time I phoned them and told them to let the payment go through and thought it had it sorted it happened again.

Let's just say that I'm happy I have scratched that itch now, and have no intentions of ever letting it itch again.

I wish you luck, and I really hope you get the whole debacle with the rainforest sorted out.

Thanks man!

Sometimes I wonder how this country is functioning at all...

You know what mate, great minds.

A few days ago I had to send a laptop out that I had sold privately. I did my best, then went to order a courier (I chose UPS). Then I remembered that they don't insure laptops or any sort of screen. Which kinda got me to thinking "Are humans so crap that they can't even carry a laptop or screen a few feet without dropping it?".

I mean seriously, how many must have gotten broken before they called uncle and stopped insuring them? is it really THAT hard to find people who can bloody carry something without breaking it?

Seems so !

Sometimes I wonder if we have really progressed from being monkeys at all.

Sent some RAM I sold through the member's market on this forum the week before last with DPD.

It was sent on Friday or Monday and supposed to have been delivered on Monday or Tuesday... they never showed with the package. Status kept saying it had been left at local collection point... but no idea which it was.

Tried to get it re-delivered through the online portal... nothing showed... tried to get it to local collection point... nothing showed.

Guy couldn't get through to them at all... I tried through the agent I booked it with, they were useless.

Guy ended up getting the local collection point it was supposed to be with to phone his DPD agent... finally found out that they'd left it in Manchester and not done anything with it at all.

Took him til the following Tuesday or Wednesday to actually get his parcel... tosspots :)

At least he's got his parcel. I'd call that a win. ******* idiots!

--snip-- got a new review. Check it out!

In the meantime they seem to have contacted the police and confirmed the crime report number I've sent them.

They say they issued me a full refund for the 3 lost items but say nothing about any compensation.

I'm afraid that review stays where it is!

Any other locations where I should post it?

People need to know THE TRUTH! :)

It could be like mobile phones. They don't really care and neither do the police but once they have a crime reference number they can claim it off the insurance. Not that it means they should feel free to give you the runaround in the meantime.

That brings me to another point. The other day when I sent the laptop I was horrified, nay, mortified to see that above the barcode in big bold black letters it said "LAPTOP".

And they wonder why their underpaid drivers make off with things.

Possibly. But this means the delivery drivers have the most bitchin' computers if they are into such things. I really doubt any of my neighbours would have signed in a false name and I know it is not me. That only leaves for the driver.

Funny thing is my second set arrived today. Here it is:

and this time the driver managed to read and reach the address and I've met him, taken my stuff and asked him "Do you require me to sign for it?" He said "No, that's fine!".

So the value of this shipment was even higher than the one that went missing (because of the extra cooler fans) and the driver didn't even require a signature for it.

A few minutes later I check the tracking for this order and it says "Parcel was handed to resident to Victoria". Now my name is not Victoria and there was nobody else present when he handed me the parcels.

I can laugh at these things now because my refund was already processed but look at these guys and their work ethic. Unbelievable! And then they tell you that you actually signed for whatever...

Excuse me whilst I try not to slip on this huge puddle of drool that appears to have appeared on the floor..

I won four of those fans last month. Really looking forward to getting my hands on them and seeing if Corsair have finally stopped making cheap junk fans.

Yeah, I've seen this too and think it's rather dumb... even customs declarations emblazoning what it is all over the package... seems really silly to me as it makes it so easy to steal.

Thankfully I haven't had many packages go missing.

Out of curiosity... why have you bought 8x 12cm fans? What do you plan to use the extra 4 for?

I like the look of that G910 spectrum... I might be tempted to buy one if I wasn't so enamoured with the Cherry MX Blue switches.

LOL. maybe crinkleshoes can answer if they are junk or not. I picked them up because of their relatively good reviews and the fact that they look good.

Well, 4 for the 480 GTS, 3 for the front case air intake, 1 for the rear exhaust. Don't ask me why I need inside the case airflow when it's all water cooled. It will take me way to long to explain. :p

Sorry to hear about the shipping fiasco. I had a similar situation (although thankfully with a much less valuable parcel) with UPS. Their "proof" that it had been delivered was an unintelligible scrawl that was apparently my signature (they weren't interested in seeing my actual signature proof from driving license or passport) and that was that.

Luckily for me the sender was decent and sent a replacement (although it was a lot of hassle) but UPS were completely abysmal. I guess they just get away with it and leave it up to the original sender to sort it out.

So this is the norm. In my case the sender and the deliverer was the same company. Maybe that worked in my favour in the end.

But the thing I get from all this kerfuffle is that you need early involvement of the Police when **** hits the fan.

They're OK... I think the Noctua's are still quieter - but the Corsair's can ramp up to a higher speed/airflow if you ever need it and I like the LED lighting.

At 20% speed though, which is what they run at 99% of the time, they're inaudible - the only thing making any noise in my system is the spinning platter hard drive.

I think the 140mm versions are better though - they make noticeably lower noise than the 120s... the 120s become a little intrusive when they get to 30-35% speed... whereas the 140mm can get to 50% and push twice as much air before they come anywhere near to the noise of the 120s.

Not to say it is a lot of noise... I just like silent systems... and I'm sure that if you can see me saying the spinning platter drive is an "intrusive" noise... then you can imagine that I don't tolerate much :)

Ahhhh OK, that makes sense now... I forgot that you ordered the 360 fan mount for the front of the case rather than a 280 or 420.

It depends who you're dealing with... I've had something similar happen to me twice... one time they delivered it to a neighbor but didn't put a slip through my door and just showed it as delivered to me... the neighbor didn't pop round to tell me anything either, was just waiting for me to show up as they thought the delivery driver had left a slip telling me where it was.

Took about 48 hours, but they sent a driver back who then put a slip through the door telling me where it was and I was able to collect it from the neighbour - someone I hadn't met before.

The other time, it took about 48-72 hours again, but they completed their investigation as lost and replaced the items.

I haven't had to go the police route for something like this... I don't think either time was the same company you had problems with... the first was DHL and I think the second was Yodel.
