Random 3D printing chatter

You’ll get a failed print eventually and then realise it was user error :p
Yep - we've had 2 so far.

1. Someone ignored the "this part is unsupported" warning and tried to print something in mid air :D

2. I used sport mode to try and shave some time off a print, so I could get another print started before I went home... unfortunately it wobbled the relatively tall print (HP Mini Rack bracket) enough that it pulled it off the build plate and ruined it :D

The only time I get failed prints on P1S and Core One are user error. As long as the plate is clean and filament is dry (PETG) it's safe to assume it's going to fine after the first layer.

Looks like Elegoo has released their multi-material system for the Centauri Carbon, and it's only 38 quid. I'm not a fan of multi-coloured/material printing due to the waste, but I'm sure at that price I could find some value in it.

I hadn't heard of them but just exploring their site

:eek::eek::eek:

800x800x1000 build volume

I feel like at that size you are just better splitting the model and printing in parts. A failure 6 days into a print would not be fun.

I've had a Bambu Lab P1P for 3 years, using it to print mainly board game organisers and accessories and minis and household stuff.

A couple of weeks ago I said "screw it" and bought a H2C for real multi-coloured printing on dedicated nozzles. I will be printing same stuff as before but with full multicolour terrain, art for my walls, coasters and nicknacks for friends, and whatever else I want.

One thing I notice so far is that it has loud moments loud due mainly to the design of the filament cutter. Fixing that turns any H2 printer series pretty silent so I need to do it asap... https://makerworld.com/en/models/24...per-h2s-h2d-h2c?from=search#profileId-2669560

Still using my P1S heavily for everyday prints for my home. HueForge is the current thing I am learning and have made some great prints - need to look at an imghost as I keep forgetting.

I have noticed that my printer is squeaking quite a bit when homing the bed so I guess its time to grease those Z rods....at some point :o I purchased this machine last August! It's been rock solid since though and not failed me once.

I'm at 1200 hours on mine, about 70 hours in I had my heatbed fail, it was a pain to replace. Then more recently I had the gears shatter on the AMS internal hub unit, barely even use the AMS and externally feed majority of prints.

This will be the belt which drives the Z rods. It’s located in the cavity underneath the machine.

Just pre-ordered the Canvas kit for my Centauri Carbon, thought £38 was very reasonable. Their shipping prices are ridiculous though, £11.90 even if all you order is a single print head!!

I've ordered mine as well, £38 was too cheap to ignore, provisional shipping date is 31/08/2026

I spoke too soon lol

First print after maintenance, I was trying to print this but it came away from the plate half way through.

I knew given its small footprint it would be a difficult, but i could not find the brim setting in Bambu Studio.

Second attempt worked adding glue to the plate and running the printer in silent/slow mode.

I can't blame the printer since I knew it was going to be sketchy before I started.

On the bright side I only lost half a gram of filament :-)

I've been looking for a 3d template for a nav mount for my Suzuki GSX-s1000GT and struggled to find one.
I have ordered one and am going to try one of the camera 3d scanning apps on it to see how it works. I will then test print one in ABS to see what it is like.

Sure this has been asked before, but I’ve got a notepad full of ideas and sketches that I’d love to design and print, but am struggling to work out the best path to go down for learning how to do this!

What’s the best free/cheap software for designing models in, and can anyone recommend a YouTube/Udemy course that starts from the beginning? :)

I'd recommend Fusion 360 and this free 30 day course
*edit just to add I think he has since done a 2026 addition.

Thanks, was just watching some fusion videos while on a train and it seems pretty intuitive!

Have a week booked off in June and going to be dedicating most of the week breaking the back of learning it, will see how we go!
