Random 3D printing chatter

Sweet, thanks, looks like exactly what I'd like. Any retailers to avoid? Rainforest seems very expensive at £60-70 but I've never heard of a lot of the other ones coming up. I hope it's OK with the forum rules to discuss in this context since OC don't stock soldering irons I don't think.

FNIRSI HS-02 Soldering Iron. Can be bought as a kit to include extra tips and charger etc, as needed. Ali is your friend....

Have ordered a Bambu P1S which should be arriving tomorrow. Was going to pick up some black and white filament from Amazon. Any brands to look out for or to avoid?

I've had quite good results from Sunlu PETG. The only whinge I would make is that the colour isn't all that regular. Black is fine but grey is a bit variegated and white isn't the whitest of whites. Generally prints well though. If you're running an AMS, you want to avoid anything that comes on a cardboard spool (Overture, for example) as they're a pain you could do without. If you're just running off a holder, it's less of a problem. Tinmorry wasn't bad for cheap too but does need drying. Ziro were good too for both PETG and PLA-CF. Can't say I print much PLA so can't offer you any good opinions on that....other than do buy loads of colours of the filament you're not going to use *facepalm*

Did you buy it just as a printer and not with the AMS unit included.? The combo seemed to be out of stock when I last looked.

Did you order direct from Bambu.?

I ordered the combo from SolidPrint3d (https://www.solidprint3d.co.uk/) after keeping an eye on the Bambu Lab website for week or so. Their shipping date was originally January 17th, but it changed to the 24th today, so I decided to look elsewhere. SolidPrint3D had it in stock with free next-day delivery, which was much better than Bambu Lab’s £15 delivery fee. The reviews for SolidPrint3D seemed decent.

Cheers guys, I have ordered some Sunlu PLA as it came on a plastic spool and will be using the AMS. Maybe one of my first prints will be a plastic spool holder so I can use the cardboard ones.

Then avoid cardboard spools unless you want to be re-spooling filament using either

Yeah, technically you can print rims for some of them but then sometimes they're too wide and don't run smoothly etc. Best to avoid if you can.
Also you want to print the release button for the AMS

and avoid unplugging the data/power cables as much as possible as they wear out quite fast and then you get the AMS blinking all red when you turn on.

The scraper is good too.

@Cenedd Thank you that is great information and I will look into those prints you have suggested, I think I have seen the AMS release button one recommended a few times in various videos.

Thanks. Wasn't sure about support or warranty being handled by them over that of Bambu directly.?
Not saying they would be an issue.?
Assuming the printer could still be registered and supported with Bambu..?

Saw today about the 24th for expected arrivals at Bambu.

Let us know how you go on

Will do, they are listed as a authorised reseller on the Bambu labs website so hopefully should be ok.

Good to know about them being an authorised dealer.

All the best with your delivery and setup of the printer. It will be good to know your experience of doing that.

Where do you intend to have it placed..?

Had a blob of death, which did cause the death of my hot end due to my arguably heavy handed manner in which I was attempting to clean it - I feel I need to invest in a heat gun.

Need to spend more time monitoring the first few layers for good bed adhesion, as I'm pretty sure that was the root cause - it's a steep learning curve!

New hot end on order, should be back printing next week.

Some bed surfaces are better than others and some are geared towards specific filaments. If you're not using glue, cleaning the bed may help. The classic is a wipe with IPA but if you're using PETG, you may find it works better to occasionally (at least when problems occur) wipe down with a most cloth with a dab of Fairy liquid (Dawn if you're Stateside) and then wipe (or rinse under a tap if appropriate) with clean water. It gets rid of some sort of oil that the IPA won't touch.

Printer was delivered before 11am today and setup was easy and quick, probably about 30 minutes or so.

I have placed it on my desk for now which is pretty sturdy but there is still quite a lot of shaking while it prints so it might get moved to the desk and shelving on the left dependent on whether I will be able to place the AMD on the shelf and have the printer below it, I will need to measure the connection cable to see if it will fit.

Printed Benchy boat and and scraper that @Cenedd suggested.

Very impressed so far, now to continue with my Fusion 360 journey!

Super impressed for you. Great result.

Did the printer need any type of update when you first connected it to your network..?

Which sliver, if applicable, are you using..?

Was the AMS unit simple enough to hook up, being on top of the printer..? Those empty filament spaces need filling, lol.

I Did post in a thread about my concerns over certain filament types, mainly those that have "S" (styrene) in them. Although the nylon, carbon and other abrasive types have their own concerns, and having the printer in the same room without adequate ventilation. Even with the built in type charcoal (?) filters, maybe lacking in capability, I did draw comments where having the printer in a workshop or garage would be preferred.
I should have posted that here really, general thread chatter, than just about a Bambu A1.

Where you bought it from, unlike Bambu direct, they didn't seem to have an offer on filament if buying a printer..?

All the best.

Just be careful with the scraper - it's really good but also easy to damage your bed with. The side with the heads of the screws goes against the bed pretty much flat to the bed.

@Vimes It's probably the Bambu Studio as a slicer. Another option is Orca Slicer which is a fork of Bambu Studio, which is a fork of Prusa Slicer.
There is a filter you can make/buy called a BentoBox which might be of interest for what you want.

Both of you may find that you want to put the printer further away from you. I ended up putting mine on the other side of a stud wall and now it's basically silent :D Can be annoying if you're trying to work next to it otherwise.

Just happened on this thread, bought an A1 before Christmas, saw the above scraper and thought I'd like one of those. Was reading through comments on Bambu Labs, thinking thats all very well, but where do I get the blades from ? eventually went routling through the box and found the blade, never know I had one, printing the handle as I type this, so thanks @Cenedd
