Random Student Loan Purchases Thread.

Sure, if you say so ;).

It's a pretty pointless thread anyway if you want to keep it to no discussion of anything else revolving around Students & money/loans.

It may as well just go into the purchase thread for the month, as it'll be exactly the same sort of posts. It's not discussing anything different to that thread if you just want to talk about purchases.

I do :) (nice argument backing up there :p)

And it wasn't just about the purchases for this round of student loan, it was any random purchases made with your student loan, which I personally would find interesting :)

Mainly because I don't fancy going through and getting quotes :)

It still offers no extra discussion over the what have you bought this month thread, really, as you moaned about chat of talking loans/rent.

I could post up some vinyl that I picked up yesterday in here or in the other thread and it's not going to do anything but give me an extra post on the forums if posting it in here.

What Moses was talking about however, is more interesting and would be a more interesting thread that wasn't just a copy of another with student whacked into it.

You do get a warm feeling inside when you find out that the student debt which is helping prolong the recession is being spent on DJ equipment tbf.

I in no way was moaning, apologies if it came across that way :) You have a point actually, talking about the loan system is also interesting, so why not! If that's what people are more interested in talking about, then that's fair enough. It is "General" Discussion after all :)

Maybe slightly :p. I just don't see the point in a 2nd purchasing thread especially not one that just advertises even more heavily how broken the system is.

I get what you mean :( loan was nowhere near enough for most of uni so far for rent, luckily I had a job most of last year so could afford to live recently, it's just this year I haven't had as much time to work due to more coursework so been a bit more skint :(

A lot of people I know are in quite a bad situation, especially those with parents just above the threshold. The loan system really does need a workover.

I'm using it to work, paying for myself at uni :) as I said, I'm likely going to be working at the student union club next year which should easily pay for the decks and earn a lot more on top of that :)

My loan has gone on snowboards and snowboard boots, weeks diving in egypt, weeks diving in scapa flow, twinset, couple dive torches and a huge amount of alcohol. O and weekend in amsterdam.

Haha, I hear ya.

Like my parents. Because they're not divorced, maintain a decent lifestyle and have high expenses (children etc), we essentially get bugger all from the SLC. It's tough and not fair in the slightest.

But such is life.

I didn't buy anything large with mine, maybe a few HDDs once or twice. But mine was a funny situation, I essentially went/am going to uni for free, only took out the 3k course fees loan for the first year, managed to get various grants for about 4.2k a year, which i used for course fees that year, and in subsequent years I just got the grants and put it towards course fees. Accommodation and food was free (leech ftw?) and I work. So all in all I'll end up with no debt and the ability to pay the deposit on a reasonable house :D

never really bought anything large with mine (minimum in scotland is 900quid a year if you live away from home). But combined with work earnings I recently bought a ~120 quid leather jacket reduced.... Oh also an iphone 4 off my mate for £220 (that'll last me a good few years)

I tend to never buy big things tbh. Biggest expenditure is rent.
