Raptor worth it ?

Posted this in another thread but nice to have as many comparisons in one thread I guess :

2x 150GB Raptors RAID0 on the Intel RAID of the Asus PW5 DH deluxe.

32Mb test :

Did you do a short or long test?

How comes you have more throughput than my 16mb cache models? also your avg access time is lower than mine...

Short or long is doesnt matter, i get the same results :)

The above post looks a lot more like it how yours should be maybe :)

Could this performance depend on the type of RAID controller used? I'm using an integrated NVidia RAID controller...

Absolutely, looking at various graphs on different forums it appears that the Intel Matrix RAID controllers are slightly quicker than the NForce4 ones which in turn are a fair bit quicker than the onboard Silicon Image chipsets.

The stripe size used in the array will also affect benchmark results - take a look here for an example.

Is it possible to change the stripe size without having to re-install?

And the PCI Card Version of a given Controler is often much quicker than its onboard equivalent.

Decided to change my stripe size from 128k down to 32k (just ghosted the image back again) and this is the new graph which looks decidely different but got 19MB/s increase in Average transfer rate :
