Exactly. It's essentially going to hide behind the TV anyway so those velcro straps can tie an HDD caddy to an Rpi and you can manage the cables with it too.

I can't recommend this cheap case enough BTW.

Thought I'd give an update on using several Raspbmc pi's streaming from a main Raspbmc pi connected to my telly in the living room with an external hdd connected.

I'm using 3 tp link powerline adaptors, which including the raspberry pi themselves have been my best purchase in several years while being some of the cheapest.

I've wall mounted all the tvs on extendable cantilever stands with cables tidied away in behind.

Raspbmc's upnp streaming has surprised me, loading music, ripped films and TV show files across the network is instant in files generally under 3gb, which is quicker than the main pi loading items straight off the connected external hdd.

Any files that are watched on the main Raspbmc can be loaded on the others from the point that was last watched which is very handy, along with art work, and thumbnails already generated.

II think I'll try the new b+ pi to get rid of the external powered USB hub behind the telly.

Overall a very happy rpi user.

I have a problem...

I installed OpenELEC yesterday and it all worked fine. I installed a few plugins and it all worked great.

I powered down XBMC and unplugged the power from my Raspberry Pi B+ last night.

Plugged it back in again this morning and I get the rainbow screen followed by the OpenELEC logo and it then reboots, it does this a few more times before the red power light goes off and I have to unplug the power (from the wall, not the micro usb) before it will power on again - then I get the same reboot sequence!

Any ideas? I'm stuck as I can't ssh in to it in time to find out what's going on!

Just saw this on an email from a competitor site

And figured it would be a great way to power a pi, with a decent quality microusb lead of course!

Has anyone experienced sudden SD card incompatibility issues?

I recently updated my RASPBMC version from Frodo to Gotham RC and I simply could not get either of my class 10 Samsung 8gb cards to work. After digging out an old 16gb micro SD card, I chucked it into an adaptor and that works perfectly, first time.

I find it weird how suddenly this card (which I've mentioned mainly because a lot on here recommended this model) now appears incompatible when before it was absolutely fine. Also I tried to go back to final release of Frodo and no joy. :/

Hi. I just bought the B+ model and I am expecting it to arrive soon. I have one question about power though. I see it can be powered via mini-USB. I have a mini-USB to USB wire. I was thinking I should attach the USB to one of those USB to plug adapter thing,. and it should work right? How do I check the power output though, and if it reaches the limit?

Thanks.

EDIT: Found out, thanks :p

I have one of those sockets, but it's behind my desk and fairly awkward to get at, not to mention that the equipment on my desk is bristling with USB ports anyway :o Works well though, and I plan on putting one behind the TV in the living room for RPi or similar

since the auto navi x update my raspberry pi is un responsive, its obscenely slow and wont do simple things such as move right when on the settings page via keyboard. Anyone know what i should do and why its acting like this? i dont want to have to do a fresh wipe and loose all the addons and settings ideally.

Hi all

A few days ago my raspberry pi (B model) started acting weird. Openelec's amber skin was missing elements and needed to be reloaded...it couldn't reload and he default skin was then loaded up. No biggy I thought. I decided to re-flash my SD card and go back to it. All fine. A couple if days pass and all of a sudden my remote on my iPad starts throwing me errors when I'm trying to browse the library, it's never happened before. I restart my iPad and it still happens. I was in the process of flipping the power switch for the Pi but yanked the power lead a bit too hard and pulled it out of the plug socket adapter. The pi would not boot and only the red light would stay on.

I'd seen this before when it went the first time, so I re flashed the SD card again....and again....and again. No joy. I've trying NOOBS, raspbian and Openelec and none of them do anything. No other lights, just solid red.

The card reads fine in my PC so I doubt it's at fault. I've checked the SD card slot and nothing is out of shape, and my pi is in a plastic case so nothing has come off the pcb. I've even tried my HTc charger cable to power it to no avail.

Any tips?....or is she dead?

TL;DR...Pi won't boot and has solid red light. SD card flashed multiple times with different OS's, no joy. HELP

PS: Its a Transcend 4Gb Class 10 SDHC card

.temp. it sounds like you might have corrupted the boot sector of your SD card... Think I had something similar happen but I found some instructions how to repair it online. Don't have them to hand but try looking up "corrupted SD card raspberry pi" or something on Google

Wierd i got my pi working, i just unplugged the SD card and USB and put it in my Laptop had a muck around with them and put it back in the Pi and its smooth again. Strange, unplugging everything and plugging it back in wasnt good enough but using it in a Laptop fixed it :s.

Hi fellas,
I remember a while ago when I was looking into what OS to run on a Pi, Raspbmc was highly recommended.

Just wondering if that is still the case?

I essentially want to use it to play media off my external hard drive and also be able to play music off my iPhone via AirPlay.

Thanks

Anyone set up their RPi for music streaming (rather than video)? Seems to be a few options (XBMC, mpd, Squeezelite + Logitech Media Server, UPnP etc), and I'm not sure which would be better.

Wow wish i overclocked my Pi when i first got it, it makes a massive difference. Running Rasplex on mine and i have a few films/Docs that are in m2ts before the overclock the Pi wouldn't play them without stuttering every minute now they are smooth as butter its unreal.

:D

For a bit more speed, and a more fluid GUI, have it running from a decent high speed USB stick.
