Which Foscam IP camera have you got? I've seen one for £70 that looks upto the job

have a FI8905W, wifi is flaky on it though. if the router stop or restarts sometimes the webcam won't reconnect so i have to go outside the turn it off/on.

in daylight the colours will be weird due to lack of an UV filter on the lens.
the IR leds do glow at night so they are noticeable.

Thanks mate, last question about the camera as I'm starting to hijack this thread. Does it come with mounting brackets? I'm planning on mounting it to the back garden wall.

The new build of Raspbmc with the hardware floating point is certainly a marked improvement over the old version. There's still a small element of lag when playing a file and trying to use the menu but no where near as bad as it was. Playing 30GB MKV files over the network with no issue!

I'm now using mine with a £5 remote from Ebay and it's all working a treat.

Getting near to the point these things will replace the HTPC's in the house.

Nice to know that about the latest version, that's one of my jobs tonight to update. Out of interest, if you run the latest version on the card does it keep your settings/addons or do you have to start again? Probably a noob question but haven't done this yet and historically used XBMC on XP.

Completely replaced my HTPC in the lounge and looking to put one in the kitchen.

I've not a clue sorry. I've fresh formatted mine just to make sure there are no gremlins hiding :P

I keep the SQL server for info and keymap I use for my remote saved on the server and copy across once it's all up and going.

Raspbmc seems to be worse than Openelec, still getting freezing issues for some files with Raspbmc that I don't get with Openelec.

You'd have to start again, or use the XBMC backup app which creates a backup of your config :)

Well Ive got Raspbmc working well on my PI apart from one Issue.

Im attempting to share the 'Movies' folder on my E: drive but when I try to add it as a source it comes up with the 'Lock settings'.
As far as I can see there is no where a user/pass has been set, the folder should be shared with no restrictions?

Any ideas?

EDIT: Nevermind, seems I needed to share the folder with 'Everyone' in the sharing settings.

I got mine two weeks ago and I'm a shame to say; all I've done with it is installed the os on to an SD card. I just don't have the mojo to play with it at the moment, other issues in life have zapped me of all my mojo.

This is how I'm planning to setup my hardware when I get some juice back.

Mine is pretty slow when browsing. Things like clicking in search boxes, or even backspacing text. Is it because I'm running it on a Sandisk Ultra Class 4 15MB/s card? It has plenty of storage at 8GB. I had it lying around as a backup memory card for my DSLR.

Would I need a Class 10 at least?

Dispatch confirmation from Farnell arrived earlier today. :D

Time to start sorting out an SD card in preparation for its arrival, methinks. Fingers crossed Royal Mail make the delivery by the weekend, going to have some fun with this. :)

I didn't order a case with it, so I'll have to come up with something creative since I'm not paying £10 inc delivery for one, but creativity shouldn't be a problem.

When did you order?

8th August, going by my post a few pages back. Not a bad turnaround time at all compared to RS who have had my order (and money!) since about May. Part of me wants to keep that order just to get a second, but I think I'd rather have the money back than a reserve Pi I'm unlikely to use.

Wow that is quick... so it quicker than Expected Delivery Time from Farnell.

I ordered last week, let see if I get it by next week :)

Check to see if your TV can power it.
My Samsung can, so it loads when the TV turns on :)

I've not thought about that, I have two LG TVs one has a USB port that for servicing only and the other one as one to play media straight from the USB. I need a usb hub to power the wifi dongle, bt dongle and hdd anyway.

I would prefer to use a powered usb hub. I have in mind ordering a D-Link USB 2.0 7 Ports DUB-H7 Hub so that it can supple the 700mA via two of the seven ports (max 500mA per port) using a Y micro usb cable, so that the Pi can run at full speed. Its been a tried and tested hub in the Pi forums but it doesn't have a power switch.

EDIT: I should really look at the usb hub on my HP W2207h monitor too..

heres a quick pic of it...

I really don't have the mojo to even order the stuff I need at the moment but my shopping list for the Pi Project is as follows:
D-Link USB 2.0 7 Ports DUB-H7 Hub
Rii 2.4GHz Wireless Mini PC Keyboard Touchpad V2 Black
3 ft USB Y Cable for External Hard Drive - Dual USB A to Micro B
2.5" HDD SATA Enclosure Caddy USB 2.0

I already have
MSI BT dongle
Buffalo Wifi dongle
80GB 2.5 sata hdd

I am tempted to get a SparkFun Arduino Inventor's Kit but its road tax this month and insurance the month after.
