I received my pi2 today.

I'm currently running it at 1GHz with 500mhz for sdram and core, overvolt at 2 with a 2A power supply.

The latest xbmc/kodi build for rpi2 literally flies! 'Heavy' skins like Aeon Nox seem to run flawlessly with zero slow down.

How is it for high bitrate BR rips with HD surround? For preamp reasons all my rips are unzipped to LPCM which can make the MKVs pretty big. My Rpi struggled with that on an old build of XBMC.

From plugins that are using a external website to stream.
I can understand that movies from external streaming can be slow buffering.

But also streaming from my samba shares (Lan) is laggy...
And I have a 50/5 Mbps network connection.

User nfs shares, my pi1 plays everything I throw at it. I don't use any Web based sources. Only hard wired lan.

Especially version 5 of openelec.

How do you process your files? My most recent rips were Despicable Me 1 and 2, coming in at around 28Gb each uncompressed (with DTSHD-MA decompressed to LPCM). I haven't tested that particular file yet but most similar file didn't play smoothly for me on my Pi 1 from NFS share over Gb ethernet (well, 100mb at the Pi end :) ).

I'm on a Pi1. My copy of despicable me 2 is uncompressed video and audio encoded to AC3 and it plays perfectly fine.

Media is coming from an FX4100 based home server via smb

I'll give it another shot. If it's no happy, perhaps it's the uncompressed audio causing the problem.

Do you have the VC-1 codec license for your Pi?

FWIW My ripping process is:

1:1 Rip with MakeMKV
DTS-HD to AC3 with ffmpeg using

Code:
ffmpeg -i 'input.mkv' -vcodec copy -scodec copy -acodec ac3 -ac 6 -ab 640k 'output.ac3'

Then use MKVmerge gui to add the AC3 audio track into the original MKV

For what it's worth my ancient 256Mb Pi handles decently sized blu-ray rips fairly well (not massive ~30Gb ones but you know ~5 - 10Gb)... As long as you don't try to do anything with the remote once the file is playing... If I try to skip/rewind, pause, bring up any kind of menu or otherwise it takes at least ~30 seconds or more for the Pi to even respond to the button press and then it almost always ends up totally freezing and requiring a reboot. I'm hoping the extra cores on the Pi2 will help it manage this situation a bit better

Cheers Frozennova. I'd rather compress the video than audio, so if my uncompressed rips fail again I'll give that a shot. Unfortunately for me my aging q6600 is unstable at current overclock when transcoding. Back to normal clocks it is.

I do have the vc1 codec, the mp2 too.

What is TV/AV amp is your pi connected to and does it support DTS-HD, if it does have you enabled audio passthrough?

Thanks CPC. :D

Had a quick play with my pi 2 on kodi last night. Downloaded openelec build copied my kodi configs over from my pi 1 and away I went, Boots much quicker and menus seem more responsive but I didnt copy my thumbnails so it was downloading them at same time will have play tonight.

Ah ha, the crux of the matter :)

It's an Audiolap 8000AP. Supports pass through of legacy lossy codecs, and LPCM HD, but not new HD codecs. Hence why I choose to rip everything with DTSHDMA/TruHD converted to LPCM.

Keeping in the DTS core for compatability.

Usually:

1:1 video track (will probably start Handbraking this again at some point)
LPCM 6 channel at 6mb/s
DTS core at 1.5mb/s
English PGS subs
English PGS subs (forced)

When I got into work this morning and found mine from RS sat on my desk :) will have a look later tonight see what on earth I can do with it :)

That was RS. Just called them and "we have thousands of units" coming... so many orders to process... can't tell when will be delivered. But you had in stock when I ordered... blah... blah...

Cancelled, ordered with CPC who confirmed stock.

Just had an argument with RS over the same thing, they didnt want me to cancel the order and said was I sure CPC had stock, said I had spoken to them and ordered it. I dont think I would use RS again now as the order dept and CS dont speak to each other and putting back onto a back order for the 20th now!

I will hopefully have it saturday now from CPC :D

Mine should be at home for me when I get back from work today. Going to have a play with OpenElec to see how it compares to my FireTV (older Rpi1 B was too slow for me).

I might have a play with setting up a download box + NAS type device. Does anyone know of a suitable distro, or something I can install ontop of Raspbian so I can have a web GUI to manage drives partitions and shares etc?

Just received my Pi case and I knew they were small but I didn't think they were this small!

Really excited now. Hopefully it'll be here tomorrow or Saturday at the latest :D.
