Kids absolutely do learn language (and other things) from the TV. My 18 month old daughter knows many of the Makaton signs used in Something Special and she also comes out with songs, phrases and words that I wouldn't use on a day-to-day basis.

She doesn't even watch much TV, either.

I thought it looked class! Saw Brooker mention it on 10 o'clock live last week and had to find it on iplayer for my own amusement as it reminded me of El Nombre, which im pretty sure just became awesome and loved, like this should!

Thank god someone else is creeped out by Ben10, my girl friends nephew is obsessed with it and all it reminds me of is south park's pokemon parody. The show seems to make minimal sense but is a market for millions of toys and games that dont work! (had to play his ds game as he's only 6)

I sometimes watch this with the bairn and wondered how long it would take for people to be offended by proxy. If you don't like it then don't watch. Surely that isn't rocket science ?

Rastafarian people talk with said accent and also use slang. Racist ?

I do hope the BBC don't cave in.

Tell me about it, on top of all the merchandise rubbish it's all very aggressive and you get all the young boys trying to mimick him, running around, kicking, punching, "killing aliens" etc...

It really is a terrible piece of television.

The fact you can understand the mouse means its not a proper, hardcore Jamaican accent, trust me I know.

the whole "racism" is overrated in uk.. in college for e.g. i open a presentation from the teacher.. and there's a woman holding a carrot(business stuff lol) and she has a scarf.. one guy comes up to me and goes "that's so racist why do they do this?" i went wtf.. seriously?

later on the year.. watching youtube video of some man (black) no racist intentions from me at all.. nomning on a soda can.. guy comes up to me again "that is so racist i can't believe they allow that"

its getting really out of control.. so what a black guy can't act stupid on camera? a woman can't wear scarf on a power point presentation?


the scarf was the one that covers the hair too but not face..

Well it doesnt bother me, thankfully nobody in my family likes the show anyway so its never on our tv :) , I can just understand that some people might have an issue with it.
