Rate my pothole repair...

The council isn't spraying the weeds either so the roads and paths will deteriorate faster, so they will have to pay out more to fix them, great use of resources

I was quite surprised a few weeks ago when ours actually fixed a few around here.
They put a temp repair in that looked similar to that rubbish in the OP then a couple of weeks later came back cleaned them up, filled them in and sealed them properly. Looks like they might last the year

Re: "how much we pay them". Most councils have now been through years and years of cuts. Sorry, I mean "efficiency savings". Ours has had to balance the books with cuts in the tens of millions, every year, for years.

Funnily enough, services have suffered across the board. Who'd have thunk it?

My council tax hasn’t been cut.

On one hand our council waste tax payers money on failed businesses under the guise of “investment” then in the other say they have no money.

The fact they've done it every year means they could have done it properly in the first place.

Around here they filled in one pot hole and yet left the slightly shallower one right next door to it. Also didn't seal around the edge so it will lift quickly.
Same a here. There could be a large hole and a medium one. The large will be treated as priority and fixed while they ignore the medium one next to it.

I assume it's because they subcontract the work to a private company who only fill the exact hole they are paid to do. The council only pay them for the top priority job. The contractor can't be bothered and also doesn't have permission to do free work by filling the hole next to it.

The Council are welcome to more money at the point they can put forward a sensible spending plan that demonstrates they have control and will seek value for money to correct issues that people actually care about.

You know, without the waste, non jobs, pointless projects nobody wants, miscellaneous funding black holes, cronyism etc etc.

Is it possible to sue the council for car damage if they hit a pothole?
IIRC if you can prove the damage was from the pothole, and the council was aware of that pothole then I believe the answer is yes but it may be dependent on various things.

I think a few people in motors have got the council to pay out for damaged wheels.

At least they've filled them in for the next few weeks...

I popped out to the local Screwfix earlier and was practically playing dodge the potholes, as the council marked the worst of them about 2-3 weeks ago but haven't done anything to them.
One is currently large enough you could probably drop a mini tyre in it, as in from the car, and it'd probably just about fill it.. (if you hit it, I suspect you're going to be lucky to get away with just a damaged wheel).

The really annoying thing with these sorts of patches is that they usually only last a few months before you end up with an even bigger hole.
Oh our road is like that its been dodge the potholes for years literally its been 2 or 3 now. A month or so back there was a miracle and they actually filled in teh potholes nearest the junction in exactly the fashion of the OP's pictures (they left all the 'holes that stretched down the street alone though). Wonder how long they'll last theres a huge one on the road out of town that appeared they filled it and a week or two later it had gone again its a case of swerve left then right to dodge the pothole then the drain cover, thats been like that for months now

Efficiency my arse I work maintenance on council buildings and the waste is staggering heating left on all weekend.. check boiling hot.. check i've even been in warehouse building where they have a gigantic gas burner I mean it must be 10 feet square sounds like jet engine when its fired up.. and theres one small office in there. I could on. The amount I get charged in council tax is astronomical

@Blackjack Davy Well then let's keep defunding the councils, and maybe sell off those public services that remain council-run. They will of course become successful and efficient in the private sector, like the water companies have. Yes, just like the water companies that provide great value for money and have maintained water infrastructure to the highest possible standards. Down with taxation and that sort of thing.

Private hill so we have to repair our own road (no pavements), I've gone through a fair amount of wishbones and drop links over the years. same with pipes and sewerage

Private roads are an absolute joke unless properly planned for (ahaha).

I used to live on one and there was NO AGREEMENT AT ALL about maintenance. Last time I remember it the road was cratered with potholes.

Now where I am I get ripped off paying a monthly bill so some agency takes responsibility for the communal areas. Annual laugh at the report of 30-40k mostly vanishing in admin fees but at least don't have to argue with a dozen neighbours.

But that's better than paying Council Tax, amiright? Private companies are a joy to deal with and always great value. Council bad, tax bad, private good.

(not aimed at you HW :p)

So our costs are not big on our private road so i think I've put in about £40 since 2015 but as i have said eaten through a fair few wishbones ,we just repair the worst pot holes, we also have a neighbour with earthmoving equipment ,diggers ect and he laid a lot of the pipes we are also responsible for (again this hasn't been an issue)
my water bills are £16 a month as we also have to pay for private sewerage ,that's £30 iish every few years
Also we wouldn't want the road too nice as its virtually traffic free
