Ray mears

I can explain the eating dirt thing, a common method of differentiating between fine clays, silts and indeed organic soils is to taste them. A clay will feel smooth on your teeth whereas a silt will feel gritty, however, they will feel similar between the fingers.

Oh Ray Mears, what can't you do?

It's standard procedure when talking about Ray Mears to make stupidly ludicrous proclomations of his skills for at least 20 minutes. (I see you're already on it!)

'If Ray Mears were here he'd fashion a Landrover out of crusty badger poo, 2 litres of tree sap and some playdoe he brought from home.' :p

Fair enough, but what has that to do with food? Are we meant to be eating nutritious dirt now :D

I like it when he makes a five star hotel from a few twigs and roots :)

Silts and clays are laid down in different climates, similarly organic soils, so what that told them was the climate was perfect for the environment they were interested in.

I like watching Ray Mears progs, but I can't help feeling that with the amount of lard he carries, he's got an entire catering crew to supply him with healthy burgers'n'chips after the camera goes off and he barfs out all those fish guts and jungle maggot salads... :p

I love watching Ray Mears, ive loved watching his programmes for years and will continue to do so.

I also thought BBCs Tribe, with bruce parry was a brilliant show.

This is what TV is all about, interesting factual stuff. Things that open your eyes to the outside world.

A small quote from Tribe on BBC 2, Where Bruce Parry spends time with tribes in varying countrys. I know its off topic , but this seems a good place to bring it up.

This is from the Tribe Website.

" On occasion, like with the Kombai of West Papua, the people are completely unaware of anything beyond their own borders. Then it is more difficult. I do remember asking Bofoqo and Bomari if they had any questions about where I’d come from. Classically, in one of my favourite quotes of all time he said to me.
“Not interested really. We like you, you’re very funny, but we have no interest in where you come from...Whatever jungle it is, it must be pretty **** 'cos you can’t climb trees, you always have to carry ridiculous items on your body, you’re too fat, you can’t cross logs without a hand...In general you’re pretty sh**...Why would we want to know about this place?”

However, wtf was he doing on those BBC Christmas ads?! Monobrow alert!

Was that the slightly surreal one, with Tim Henman limping around on tennis raquet crutches dishing out helpings of stiff upper lip? Very bizaare!

Ray Mears does reality TV worth watching - FACT

A lot of his stuff you can watch over and over again, although I do wonder when hes lighting a fire out of two hairs on his chest and a magnifying glass how many takes they do before its a success

His passion for what he does is immense, would love one of his books personally signed by him. :)

Did anyone see the episode in which he taught the two men to light fire after the men the tribe came from had forgotten? He saved them so much embarissment that they had forgot, dealt with the situation fantastically and made them very happy when they could finally make fire. :)
