He makes brilliant programs. The strange thing is I even like watching repeats.
Yup ditto that, his books are so interesting and readable ive read them a fair few times over and watched his tv programs time and time again.

As for what he said about Steve I, its a valid opinion and he shouldnt be slated for it.

Ray Mears is awesome, I've been watching his shows since he was a kid. I couldn't care less what he's said about Steve Irwin, the quote Tru posted seemed quite valid to be honest.

Any man that can sustane a full regiment on 1 Duck egg, 3 blades of grass and a handful of bracken taken from an Otters damn is fine by me.

Seriously the dude is great, great programs, great attitude, in fact a top dude all round.
I like the shows that recreate previous real life struggling storeys like those dudes from WW2 who crashed in the desert and had to walk out.
One of my all time dreams is to spend a year with Ray cruising about in the middle of nowhere getting all earthy.
In a completely macho survivalist kind of way of course :p

I love Ray Mears' shows. Ive got all of the DVDs from his previous shows, and will most likely get this one when it comes out. Can't say the grey gloop he made this episode looked too good though tbh. And wtf was with eating mud, lol. Harpoon hunting fish looked pretty cool though.

Oh, and malc30.. you wish could come true;

Look under the 'course' section, then 'Expedition'. I would so love to go on one of those courses, but they seem quite expensive.

Just watching him now, and despite having barely seen 24, I would think that he is like Jack Bauer, but in the jungle. he has just made an arrow and hunted a deer (with a rifle though).

hmmm...venison

I was going to post this.

A mate of mine spent a week with him in the Namib Desert last year doing the survival course. She'd never heard of him before, but now she going to do the Telemark course next year.

I went to Tanzania with someone who had a similar lust for termites!

Thats because bowhunting is illegal in the UK.

I've only seen snippets of his programs.
One was where he was in a hunting lodge with a load of other guys with guns and he was feeding them grass and twigs.
No Mears! NO! Guns = meat whether its a deer you have stalked and killed, or your own leg you have blown off to avoid having to eat grass and twigs.

That sounds really fun. Ive actually lived in Telemark for half my life. I also crossed the Hardangervidda on a 5 day expedition when I was about 10. And one of my neighbours used to be in the Norwegian resistance during WW2. So it would certainly be of interest to me. If I was to go on one of these courses or expeditions, I would certainly want it to be in a Northern European/Russian forrest.

I'm doing a couple of the courses this June (not the overseas ones though). I have been on a waiting list for over a year for a place, they usually fill most of the places for the coming year within days of announcing them.

I can't wait :)

Ray Mears is brilliant, I think the only problem i have with him is he seems to have lost a few of his social skills as a result of being in the bush so often. He was boring as hell on Paul O' Grady.

I love it when he makes the wooden shelters in the Amazon.
