Fair enough, I did a ctrl+f search for each respective name and it came up with nothing. nvidia are only hurting themselves by catalouging it with that the gamesworks brand, they must know the name is dirt.i just linked you the evidence that says they aren't.. Directly from nvidia. RTX tech from nvidia is part of the optix package which is listed under gameworks features.. how you can say thats mutually exclusive is beyond me.

It's not volumetric light rendering, it's pixel vector shading. You take 1 pixel on your screen, fire it directly in front of you, and trace it's route back to a light source.Raytracing = on the fly volumetric light rendering.
Amazing if you’re rendering still images and have time to appreciate and manipulate composition, but as a global setting it is entirely pointless performance hit.

To me, RayTracing started way back with the Amiga days (might have been earlier but no idea) and this is what got me excited all that time ago (looks crap nowadays but anyone with an Amiga or similar will understand)

It does show that Larrrbee was indeed moving to RT as rumored and had improved to use both RT/rasterization.
The notion you put forth regarding knowing about RT was hackney and stilted towards what was presented to you. Intel's involvement regarding ray tracing.

No, volumetric lighting is taking a volume of space, and filling it with light rays to simulate shafts of light. The very benefit RT brings is doing away with the effort of forcing scenes to look like that - put light outside, draw window, volume of light creates itself. Not the other way around.That’s the same thing. And has been a thing for quite a while. The traditional methods are are CPU based renderers which take a life time and a day to render a single scene.
@drunkenmaster as far as i can tell nVidia have added nothing to Ray Tracing, it already exists in some game engines to the same extent, some of them years old, and it does not need dedicated hardware to run.
Its as if nVidia have taken existing technology, recoded it to require their hardware and then run really not very well at all for some planed obsolescence.

Ray tracing is much more parallelizable than rasterization
It has been done in real-time before and there have been other RT GPU's. The only difference here is this is the first PC gaming GPU that does ray tracing. RT is something just about all the main GPU makers have been working towards and talking about for years. Even outside the PC market.I care because it's never been done in real time before and also because of this statement from the keynote yesterday:
