RC cars

I use the radiolink RC4GS. Its better than the cheapo flysky ones i was using before (that came with a second hand car i bought) iv head no range issues like i did with the flysky. Receivers are cheap at £15 each, and you can have multiple cars programmed into the same transmitter.

The DumboRC previously mentioned gets a lot of recommendations too.

Lipos are a tricky thing so buy sometimes, They arent standard sizes (there are some exceptions) and most of the places that sell them either dont put the dimensions on the website  or if they do, there is no way to filter the search by size. The only exception ive found is Hobby King. https://hobbyking.com/ As a result, i buy mine from them. you can filter by dimensions, so its easy. 2S lipos for my LC12B1 are £9 each and perform fine. the EMB1 truggy can fit a bigger battery due to a different layout.

I imagine its easier with the Tamiyas, but you'll still have an issue identifying the size of Lipos on some websites.

Are TT01's still a thing, I've got a pair that worked fine years ago when they went in the garage, have moved house twice, no 3 times since then but should probably move them on so someone else can get some use out of them.

They are still a reasonably popular car at the club level as a lot of clubs have a TT01 or TT02 spec class - put them on eBay at a reasonable price and they'll go pretty quick

Whats a reasonable price?
From memory, I have 2 full TT01's both have had a few mods, 2 controllers, 4/5 spare body shells, bag of random bits.
A stock spec TT01 will go for £50 to £60.

If the hopups are rare / desirable then £70 to £90 would be reasonable.

Bodies are a different story - some shells are really rare and can fetch a small fortune, but all depends on condition. Having a search of completed TT01 auctions on eBay should give you a reasonable idea.

A ready to run TT01 in good condition with basic electrics and a good condition Tamiya body will easily go for £150 for example

I'm looking at getting a couple of RC cars for the kids and just wondering what would be recommended. It's only for street/garden so no mega speeds, and I'd like 4wd for the garden. Preferably reasonably durable and not mega expensive (was thinking around 50 quid per car).

FTX Comet might be worth a look, £60ish per car with everything you need other than AA batteries for the transmitters.

The comet is available as a monster truck, truggy, or buggy - but it's only 2WD.

Spares are easy to get as well

My local club has a TT01 only round with no mods allowed. It's the funniest racing I've ever done. We don't really split them up so can have well over 10 cars at a time. Track limits are mostly optional, rubbing is recommended :)

That sounds super fun. I've had a browse into what my local club is like, and they just seem a bit snobby from the fact they appear to require a membership payment to even turn up and spectate... Been too busy with other things to actually see whether I've jumped to the wrong conclusions there!

I've got an old Hyper7 with an 8 port race engine, really should sell that to somebody who would get some enjoyment from it.

The engine is brutal for its size.

Can't see myself ever firing it up again sadly!

you could convert it to electric my dad and i done that to ours and they go so much faster now, plus so much quieter so more places we can run em including out the front of the house :)

Looking for some advice,
I've got a TT-02B with a BZ motor, 68T Spur and currently a 19t pinion fitted. This has been working ok but noticed a catching/knocking noise on the last run.

Have taken apart the rear diff as that is where the noise sounded like was coming from, everything looks ok (no plastic shavings ect) put back together and re-greased still have the noise. After dismantling most the buggy I thought I'd try the silver can motor it came with and no noise.

The BZ motor seems to be running ok not under powered or anything, anyone any ideas what the noise could be?

Video shows approx 30-40% throttle.

At a push, are the screws that hold the motor in place touching something inside the BZ motor?

Double checked and doesn't look like it.

I removed the motor from the chassis and it doesn't make the noise. I'm guessing this is because the motor isn't under any load

I'm gonna to buy me and my boy TT-02Bs soon. We've ordered the aluminium propellor shaft and ball bearings too. I cant wait. I did my old 80's Hornet up last year and that's got him into it. Anyone got any tips for more (cheap) hop ups? I was thinking about getting steel pinions...
