RC cars

Have joined the local club, and started racing again in the 2wd off road class - I feel so slow and off the pace. I'm unsure how much is down to car setup, but it's where I'm placing most of the blame, as I can't be that bad surely!

I've bought a few parts and new tyres which will definitely help, biggest change will be swapping out the transmission from a "lay down" to a "stand up" which allows the motor to sit further back, and in turn allows the battery to be pushed further back too, hopefully this solves my traction (or lack of) issues!
Where are you racing and what's the track like + what chassis are your running.

90% of a good setup is having the right tyres.

Also - don't be afraid to run a slower motor - or turn things down until you get your consistency back

I took the winter season off from racing and haven't entered the Welsh Regionals for this summer. I don't think I'll be going back to racing :(

Fell out of love with it last year and thought I'd try one more time but just wasn't feeling it. I know I could go back and do a reset but I can't see me doing it any time soon.

I'm doing more 1:1 car track days now so that's taking up my "free" weekends.

I've also stopped collecting kits. Last kit I bought was the Re Re YZ10. I do love RC cars but I think it's time to move on, real car track days cost money :)

It's not even that though. I've done both for a few years. Just think it's time to move on a bit. 70 kits and 28 built cars is going to take some time to wade through.

I'm in Guernsey, where the 2wd 1/10 is run on an outdoor track in the summer (other classes are run between outdoor on indoor, but I'm not involved in those yet) - track is hard and compacted, where the fastest tyres are Holeshot M4s.

Great bunch of people, and some fast guys in the group - one guy in particular is awesome, believe he's currently top 3 in the BRCA Rallycross National Championship!

Getting as many tips and pointers from them as I can :)

I’ve had a few recently, but just have a Tekno ET48 now; although it’s been ages since I’ve taken it out. I only really bash about the place, there’s a good set of bike jumps near me where I go and jump till it breaks!

This is what I managed to do to the motor last time out :D

Hey. Are you still running the ET48? Did you have to add much to it in order to make it a basher?

I still have it yeah, but it’s not had a run out since last year. My two main local places closed and I got bored in my garden.

I put some braces on, I think the guy was called M2C. It stiffened everything up, but really once you make one part stronger it puts pressure elsewhere. I think I upgraded the shocks and put a different set of wheels/tyres on but they weren’t so good at bashing as they had less give.

It’s a solid truggy for bashing as it is I think. Main thing was good availability of spares from RPRC which has closed now, but someone else has taken over. I’ve not looked into it for ages so not really current knowledge.

Thanks! The M2C bits are very popular from what I’ve discovered, as well as the Oktay bumpers.

Eventurerc.co.uk have taken over from RPRC.

I’m very tempted to get the ET48 2.2 for bashing purposes. I’m starting to put a list together of the parts I’ll need. It ain’t gonna be cheap :-o

I'd say go for it! They are a money pit, but no more than any other RC. I dabbled with crawlers for a while, the desire to spend 00's on nice scale wheels was too strong! I'd be tempted to go stock and then upgrade as you need. But on the otherhand, shiny things are cool :)

I haven't heard of the Oktay bumpers, but a bumper was always on my list of things to do. I'd also recommend taping & shoegoo'ing your shell as I destroyed my original one pretty quick.

I tried the wallpaper tape + E6000 combo on my son’s brand new Team Associated MT10 shell but it lasted maybe 3 runs before it fell apart, just like the last one. I’m pretty unconvinced that it’s a good solution, but maybe that shell is poor quality.

I’ll be getting him a shell from basherbodies.com. The owner told me that they’re releasing one for the MT10 very soon.

Yeah those basherbodies look great, I couldn't justify the $, the tape/shoegoo has held up well on mine, at least much better than the stock shell. I need to stop looking at all this RC stuff again  Although I should at least check my lipos and maybe give everything a once over.

Gone deeper in to the RC Racing rabbit hole - have now purchased a 4WD 1/10 scale to use in both the outdoor summer and indoor winter league - it's an Associated B74.2D Champions Edition.

Seems to be a lovely piece of kit, just need to get the appropriate wheels and tyres and go from there.

Got myself a Losi Micro B to mess about with in the back garden. It’s quicker than I thought it would be !
They’re such a great little car, I made some ramps and me and my son race them around the living dining room on some foam mats. We must have done about 30 packs and not broken a thing.

Couple of guy where I work do RC racing, thought it looked cool, but wasn't really too interested. The 1 of them showed me touring car race (they all do off road) and it peaked my interest.

Any tips on how to get into the hobby? I've been watching a few videos. But does anyone know of any clubs in Kent that do on road racing?

I know it's not the smartest idea for a beginner, but I'm really tempted by a nitro car. I love the idea of tinkering with it.

Nitro is harder to find clubs for.

Where in Kent are you? Best thing to do is to go along and watch on a local club night. This will let you figure out what class you want to run, in on road there's quite a few choices in 10th electric.

Edit:
- Eastbourne is a great club, but might be a bit far.
- West Kent has a decent reputation https://www.wkrcc.co.uk/
- You could look at Medway RC Raceway as well

If you go to the BRCA website, there's a complete list of all clubs https://brca.org/

Got an old RC car with this battery pack, looking for a higher capacity replacement but can't find anything?

Any suggestions or ideas? Looked at NiMH batteries but they seem to be higher voltage
