Reacher - Amazon TV series 2022

Why would it make the movies canon?

James Barr was a character from the one shot book, so referencing him just means that the early part story happened already - When Reacher was a military police captain.

Why wouldn't it?
Reacher talked about seeing Barr recently in Chicago, where the book and movie takes place. Of course it could just be continuity.

I might give the (audio) books a go. Does it matter what order? I assume I should still do the first book, even though season 1 was based on it? (Tbh, this is where a poor memory helps, as I can't particularly remember how it went already! )

The earlier ones were out of order timewise.
Order doesnt specifically matter, but this link has published and timeline order

In regards the series I thought the latest episode was over very quickly. 38 minutes it turns out before the closing titles. Damn no wonder it felt quick.

the action scenes are getting ridiculous now, ruining what could be a very good show.
Sending two amateur hitmen to take out Reacher's crew. The hitmen couldn't even get a shot on target when being rushed in a straight line, despite having rifles with scopes. How did they hope to get a hit in the funeral crowd.

The men in uniform were the first ones to disappear after the first shots were fired.

And Sanchez flying across the screen taking a bullet for Reacher.

I've tried to watch the episode twice now

Yeah, you got this impression these were two guys they'd just found on the street rather than professional hitmen...

Yes, that was rather silly. I'm sure a professional hitman could have hit at least two of the crew with the first shot, especially since they were standing still at that point.
