Reacher - Amazon TV series 2022

Thing is if you have read any of the books, it was just the absolute wrong casting to have TC play him.

It did make me laugh when that came out and in every book of the series I've read pretty early on it gets Reacher's physical description in as a man mountain.

In some respects I'd rather a show that was a little safe and grew than some of the recent shows which hit with a bang and then ran out of steam heavily in season2 . Rack Ryan and The Boys being examples.

To be fair though the books are very procedural! They are all follow the same theme so it sounds like its nailed it!
The only thing I would say is that I've never thought of Reacher being quite that cut. He's a big guy, immensely strong but I always figured more of a Wrestler type, big arms and chest, just not a muscly guy. *shrug*

The Boys relied way too heavily on the good favour of it's first series and didn't really make any effort with S2, hope S3 is a return to form.

I don't even want to remember JR S2, first was a pleasant surprise.

First season JR was actually a surprise yes, second season I'm struggling to remember what happened. His girlfriend and supposed to be doctor wife disappeared to never be mentioned again. Greer was off to Moscow then never seemed to get there I think. It felt like they just completely forgot about any continuity at all and just wrote what they wanted.

It's ultimately forgettable - one part I do remember that struck me as odd was the fact Jack is a level headed guy but he and the squad were rampaging the Venezualan (?) parliament building in the final episode just gunning down all the guards with impunity, felt really out of character.

Probably because it's not a "Jack Ryan" story but another story previously written for another character in a different franchise which had the "Jack Ryan" name smashed into it at high speed to create a horrific jumble of two or more separately written stories which are forced to share the same character name. It's a genuine travesty what recent TV/Films have done to the Tom Clancy legacy!

The travesty is that his family and Estate have allowed it to happen. I doubt Tom would ever have sanctioned most of what's been put on screen.

Whilst I really enjoyed the Cruise films, well mostly the 1st one, to me Cruise was just playing a generic action character randomly called Jack Reacher whereas the TV show feels far closer "The" Jack Reacher from the books, irrespective of actor height size etc. So while the TV show hasn't got the acting, production or "sparkle" that the Hollywood films had, it's far closer to how I imagine Book Reacher to be which makes it "better" for me.

I really enjoyed the first episode and I'm interested in where this will end up.

Just finished episode 2. Liking a lot.

Though one thing on the Tom Cruise issue playing JR... Some of the scenes are less believable in the series for me in a way. Picking a fight with a mountain of a man isn't as believable as someone thinking they can better someone of Cruise's stature in a fight.

Everyone loves to try and prove they can beat the biggest guy in the room. Back in our younger years my 6'4 mate always got the hassle while me as the midget next to him just carried on drinking my beer :D.

Only managed the first episode so far but thought it was great and much closer to the books than the films.

Haha - I was always picked on by the bigger types :P
