Reading/Leeds Festival

I saw Animal Collective.

I was a little bemused to be honest, and although I enjoyed it it wasn't really what I was expecting. It seemed like a lot of others there felt the same. Are they usually like that live? There were a few songs and a lot of ambience.

Grass was great though

Yea they did that at the Astoria when I saw them in July. Twas a bit...weird. The first time I saw them at Rescue Rooms there was nothing like that. I think I prefer the gigs they do with less ambience!

One question.

What the hell was that on the lead singer of muse's guitar?

A thing attached to loads of effects so he can mess around with them on the fly rather than having to press pedals, really really is an amazing piece of kit and can make some kick ass noise.

And in essence, the main glowy thing I think is some sort of Theramin.

The square pad? It's an XY midi control pad which Matt has linked upto a Korg Kaos pad which is where he got those wierd and wacky effects from.

Nope, it's the Korg Kaos pads built in effects distorting the guitar :)

A band like what?
Rubbish fallout boy tribute act that have a drummer that can't even do his own fills?
And a set that needed 2 (poor) covers?

I wasnt there, so i cant speak for the performance. Although my sister got back today (and has been to many more gigs than me) and said they were great. I've got the album and it's not all to my taste, but in my opinion they're pretty different from FOB (besides the singing style). Theres a wide variety on the album.

When i say a band like that -- i mean a band that fits more into the ideal of Reading. Not some pop/rap act that is a completely different culture. I'm not preaching that Reading should be rock, and rock only -- i just find it bizzare that people would pick on PATD compared to some of the other acts present.

Explain what you mean by "can't do his own fills?" They had two drummers or something?

Just an image of the guitar you're talking about :)

The Manson M1D1:

He did also use his other manson with a built in pad, which is this one:

Coheed and Cambria were great in the NME tent, was leaning on the barrier for that, they played better than when I went to see them at Manchester Academy.

Flogging Molly was cool.

Belle and Sebastian were great on the main stage, I love them but live they were even cooler, proper lie back and just enjoy it all music. The Rakes were also phenominal too.

Surprise band of the weekend were Metric! thought they were really good, also anyone who saw the Howling Bells I envy you, I caught half a set a few weeks back when my mates band supported them, but didn't get to see them this weekend.

The worst bands that I saw were probably the futureheads, or The Long blondes. the sound was terrible.

I kept my eyes out for tents with OCUK on them but saw none! was shocked!!!

Well apparantly they're pre-recorded for some tracks as the drummer can't do them live. Deary me. :(

Edit: Also, yeah, Matts guitar kicks ass :D

You got a source for that? I'm not having a go -- it's just that cant be true!

Rather than writing all eleven songs exactly the same way, Panic split the album in two, with one half recorded using drum machines and synthesizers and other using Vaudevillian piano, strings, and accordion. That split, however, is not really noticeable unless you know to listen for it: The songs blend together into one seamless aural experience that worms its way into your head and mercilessly nests there. Between Panic's ruthless hooks and their clever, self-aware lyrics, it's pretty much impossible to argue with Urie when he sings, "Swear we'll shake it up if you swear to listen." Consider this our solemn promise, boys.

Nearest I could find.

just watched the automatic on bbc3...

what happened to that idiot in the band... he went down to the crowd and they were pulling him in... it looked like he whacked someone with his mic...then he got away threw his mic to the floor and just walked off through the back?

someone hit him... own up :p

i hope someone did because he is the worst band member anyone could have.. what does he do except appeal to kids?

I didn't see it but from what i heard today it seems the crowd tried to rip his clothes off and have a bit of a fiddle with his manparts :p so he went off in a huff.

For me Muse were astoundingly good, and i was really surprised by how much i enjoyed Kaiser Chiefs. Wolfmother and the Subways put on a real good show too.
